Eight Weeks Until Auto Assembly 2012

Eight Weeks Until Auto Assembly 2012
It’s hard to believe that we are now just eight weeks away from Auto Assembly 2012, Europe’s Largest Transformers Convention. It feels as if Auto Assembly 2011 has barely been behind us, but with the convention nearly upon us we wanted to give everyone a reminder that the convention is fast approaching and that tickets are selling faster than ever this year and that we are on target for a total sell out!
We’re now entering our “rush period” for ticket sales – the time of the year where we traditionally sell over 50% of our tickets for Auto Assembly – so if you haven’t already booked up, now is the time so you don’t miss out. If you still haven’t made up your mind, check out the website for all of the details about this year’s event or watch the first part of our recap video on our youtube channel here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nign7-lENd0 and you can see our current trailer video here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWy4HPlZT80
With seventeen guests, our biggest ever line-up of dealers, a massive new four-star venue, great free gifts for attendees including a magazine, lithograph and comic, what more could you ask for?
Auto Assembly 2012 is located in Birmingham in the centre of the UK so it’s easy to get to from all parts of the country. If you are travelling from anywhere in Europe, there are affordable flights from most of Europe to Birmingham International Airport (which is on the same site as the convention hotel) and for those of you who are travelling from further afield, flights to the UK are a lot more affordable than you might think…
Registration for the full weekend (which includes access to EVERY part of the convention including all our workshops, panels and free autographs with no additional charges) is just £45 for adults and hotel accommodation is just £50 a night for a single room or £60 for a twin or double making the convention affordable for everyone!
We’ll be bringing you a lot more updates over the next few weeks as the convention draws closer including great news about our displays, dealers, the cosplay competition and we’ll be announcing the return of our Non-Attendee Package for those of you who can’t make it. We may even be bringing you some news about Auto Assembly 2013…
For more details on Auto Assembly 2012 which is taking place over the weekend of 3rd – 5th August 2012 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel or to book your tickets or find out information about booking dealers tables, visit the website at www.autoassembly.org.uk
Hope to see you there!

Paramount is a century old and Transformers are ‘afloat’

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on January 4, 2012 | Paramount |

Paramount Studios is enjoying its hundredth birthday this year. It has a great history, having kept millions of people entertained throughout the last century. On a day in early January the studio celebrated with a large float in a Pasadena event. While crowds watched, the float took part in the Roses Parade. Transformers were present (of course), along with figures associated with other Paramount movies such as ‘Grease’, ‘Wings’ and ‘Star Trek’.

It was great to hear about the Transformers rubbing shoulders with such good company. However, at least one critic felt that ‘The Godfather’ movies should have got a look in. Most Transformer fans would have had no problem at all with Al Pacino sharing the float (it’s not like he would have taken up much space), but will feel that a case could be made for several other alternatives as well. As long as Transformers were included, we would not feel there was a problem there.

The Transformers movie of 2007 was not simply a box office smash as we all remember. Despite the odd mixed review by a snobbish critic, and the occasional Transformers fan throwing his non Transformers toys out of his pram, many reviews were really positive and the film deserved all the awards and nominations it collected for technical wizardry. It is only right that the Transformers were honoured by Paramount in Pasadena. In addition, the appearance of the Transformers made that float look quite breath-taking.

As for ‘Grease’, it just reminds us that taste is a subjective thing. It may have been a hugely successful film once upon a time. However, it is the case that cheese is a popular product in many countries. Although not everyone can endure the whole film, some of those who have done so assure me that it is a cheesy one and is worth watching.

RC Optimus Prime from Tamiya

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on December 29, 2011 | Toys |

‘lofty401′, a new member on our forum, posted the following video from YouTube showing a custom Optimus Prime made from a Tamiya RC truck. You can’t quite get the sheer scale of the Optimus Prime until the end of the video when they place an original G1 Prime on top of the trailer. Then you can appreciate just how big this bad boy really is.

I want one of these. Now.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on October 18, 2011 | News,Video Games |

For all those who enjoyed playing War For Cyberton, you’ll be pleased to hear that a ‘natural successor rather than a true sequel’ is on the way in the shape of ‘Fall of Cybertron’.

The details so far are somewhat sketchy from the visuals we have seen on the cover of US magazine Game Informer, but Fall of Cybertron is believed to be the next Transformers game being released by Hasbro, and is already causing quite a stir following the release of the trailer (below) starring Grimlock.

What to expect is still very much unknown but the press release states that the new games is about:

“the final, darkest hours of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons as they fight for control of their dying planet, ultimately leading to their storied exodus from home.”

The fact that Grimlock has been mentioned sounds like a positive for those who like robot Tyrannosaurs but it also sounds as though the plot of the game has, at least in part, moved to Earth.

War For Cybertron may have showed us only a glimpse of what a Transformers game is capable of but it has undoubtedly been the best effort so far. It is an immensely enjoyable game to play. The tie-in game with Dark Of The Moon didn’t satisfy fans but the two Cybertron games are totally unrelated and far more effort seems to have been put into making them.

Fall of Cyberton is due for release is the Autumn of 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with no news yet on it being released on other formats. The new Wii U console will no doubt also be a format the game will be released on.

Hasbro state that they have created an original storyline, working with Activision, with battles that lead up to the exodus of the Transformers machines from Cybertron. We will have to wait and see just how original their storyline is when the game is released in time for Christmas.
