Transformers RID – Ultimate Collection coming to DVD (again)

Play.com and Amazon.co.uk have updated their listings with a date for Transformers RID – Ultimate Collection on DVD. The set is due out on 1st December 2008 under the Jetix brand. It will be a 6 disc set, formatted as Region 2 PAL and have a RRP of £19.99 but Play.com have it for £12.99. Given the price, no extras are expected.

This set was originally announced to come out in September 2004, but was cancelled due to poor sales of the two individual sets. It seems the reissued sets, released last October, have sold well enough to justify this to be rescheduled.

As Chris McFeely reported earlier, thetf.net forum member Casperuk had mentioned that Play.com have dispatched his order for the Complete RID Boxset, which had been confirmed as cancelled last month. Casperuk got his package today and had this to say

RID Boxset announced for the UK!

Chris McFeely has confirmed that Maximum Entertainment are decided not to release volume 2 but a boxset containing the first 20 episodes. No extras are confirmed except for lots of character profiles (done by Chris again). The listing can be found here at Virgin Megastores site.

Complete RiD DVD boxset cancelled

It’s still listed on several websites, but here’s the official word from Maximum Entertainment’s Colin Lomax on the fate of this set

“As a result of disappointing sales we have decided against continuing with the ‘complete set’ approach and have instead chosen to release the episodes on single DVD’s at a lower price point. Consequently we won’t be including any extras. We may revisit the box set approach when the new Spielberg movie is released but not for now.”

So if anyone was holding off on buying the two individual sets in favour of waiting for this, hold yourself back no longer.

Thanks to Overload on the forums for pointing this one out – Play.Com now have the first RiD DVD volume up for pre-order. Retails at £12.99, with Play’s discount, it’s only £9.99.
