Auto Assembly 2011 Confirms Latest Guests And More…!

Written by Duh_Prez on April 24, 2011 | Uncategorized | Tags: ,

We’ve had another couple of quiet months publicly for Auto Assembly, but as ever, we’ve been working frantically to make 2011 our biggest ever convention and we’re ready to unveil our latest serious of announcements…

We’ve got loads of things to announce and update all of you with on Europe’s largest Transformers convention including an announcement on two more guests making an appearance this year, an update on a great panel that we’ll be organising and another update and surprise about Auto Assembly 2012…

Rather than tell you all here, you can see all of them announced here in our latest new video on our Youtube Channel here:-

http://youtu.be/aKpyV4GHQfY

And that’s not all… we’re having a bit of a video frenzy on Youtube this week! We’ve uploaded more footage from last year’s convention and for those of you who weren’t there, or if you want to see some of Saturday night’s programme, you can now see our Cosplay Competition in it’s entirety right here:-

We’re going to be uploading some more exclusive footage shortly including Garry Chalk’s concert and the latest of our superb script reading sessions featuring Garry Chalk, Scott McNeil and comic artist Nick Roche!

We’re doing a lot more work on the convention at the moment as well and our Committee Head Simon is making inroads into catching up on all the paperwork following all of the personal issues he has had to deal with over the last 8 months and as well as working on some great stuff for Auto Assembly 2011 that we’ll be announcing soon, we have some fantastic plans ahead for Auto Assembly 2012 and beyond and you can expect to hear more from us on these shortly…

You will have noticed that our website hasn’t been updated for some time and this has been a direct result of Simon’s personal circumstances, but the site has just undergone a major content update as well and you’ll find all the latest news and updates on the convention there, including our new promo poster / flyer which you can download.

Finally, if you have booked for Auto Assembly 2011 and still waiting for your confirmation emails, we are processing the final batch of these and they should be issued shortly. Please check your spam box as well as your inbox as we are aware that some mail addresses (most notably hotmail and yahoo) do have some problems receiving email from us.

We are also trying to finalise the despatching of the AA2010 Non-Attendee Packages. The delay of these has been frustrating for us this time around and has been out of our control. We are looking to see if we can include extra items for everyone who has placed orders for them, but it is our intention to ship these in the next 3-4 weeks at the latest.

Anyway, for those of you who want to attend Auto Assembly 2011, tickets are available now from our website. Ticket prices are £50 for adults and £38 for children, students and senior citizens, with under 5s admitted free. One day tickets are available for the Saturday or Sunday (although these will NOT get you into the Friday or Saturday evening programmes) and these cost £30 for adults, £21 for children, students or senior citizens and under 5’s as always are free. Family tickets will be available shortly.

The convention is taking place over the weekend of 12th – 14th August 2011 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham, England.

Tickets for Auto Assembly 2012 will go on sale later this year.

For more details on the convention, to see a full list of all the guests and activities taking place over the weekend, or to book your tickets, visit the website at www.autoassembly.org.uk

We hope to see you all in August!

Transformers issue 81?

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on April 7, 2011 | IDW Publishing,Marvel |

Transformers comic artist and all round top bloke Andy Wildman sent out an appeal this week for Transformers fans everywhere to sign a petition for IDW that could see Transformers #81 go into production. Andy and Simon Furman worked on the last of the Marvel Transformers comics in the 80s, when comics were really comics, and the story was kinda finished in a rush. Now, after all this time, it looks as though there’s a chance for that story to continue.

Have a read of what Andy says below, and then sign the petition overe here.

There is a bit of a buzz at the moment on the interenet about there being a Transformers #81. Thought I would add my perspective on this.

A while ago myself and Simon Furman considered the idea of picking up where we left off with the old Marvel Comics run of Transformers. For me it came about because after doing a series of six covers IDW asked me to do some interior art for their Transformers book. I wasn’t particularly interested in doing any so they asked me what it would take to do some. Well the obvious amswer would be copious amounts of dallar 😉 but to be honest it wasn’t about that. It was more to do with the fact that I was happy to just do cover art for Transformers and that I am busy doing other stuff these days. I gave it some thought though and put to them that it would be possible under a couple of conditions. First was that I would want to work with Simon Furman. Second was that we would want to do something that had a point. Something that felt like it was really saying something. I came up with the gist of an idea and put it to Simon. He ran with it and things began to take shape. What was clear was that it fitted well into the continuity of our old Marvel run. IDW agreed that there is precedent for this with the fact that GI Joe recently picked up on Larry Hama’s old Marvel story threads. So. An idea took shape and we almost had it until the current economic siutation put the breaks on it.

So where are we now? Well it is clear that IDW are not resistant to the idea but in these current times of relatively low comics sales they would need to feel confident that it would sell.

So what can be done about it? If you are interested, sign the petition that is going about. Get enough names on that and it would clearly be a viable project. Of course it remains to be seen who would draw it as there are other interested parties but I think it is safe to say that Simon would love to get his teeth into it.

Roll Out!
