Note to self: When the next film rolls around, ignore all the on-screen character toys and wait for the second wave of toys featuring ancillary characters. They are much better.
Breakdown is a nice homage to the Stunticon warrior from the old 1980s toyline. However, he's very much his own 'bot, thanks to a fearsome appearance and hulking demeanour thats all his own. The robot mode in which he comes packaged is a little misproportioned, although this may have more to do with the mores of the Movie aesthetic than a concious effort to make the figure look so simian. The compact torso, long arms and massive head do take a bit of getting used to, but do serve to give the character personality in spades. I particularly like the almost snarling face and yellow eyes poking out.
In terms of articulation and movement, the figure has a suprising amount of this that trumps some of the larger sized figures from the range. The elbows are double jointed and there's full 360 degree movement at the shoulders. The wrists are also ball jointed, so he can move his hands a fair bit too. Breakdown does sacrifice any movement at the waist in favour of some nicely articulated legs. His feet are the only real weak area, as he has to balance on the halves of the bonnet to stand successfully, and as the feet are not ball jointed, he does require a little paitence to stand or pose.
Breakdown has a superb transformation. Its nicely complex, but not irritating with no unnecessary twists and turns. The smooth and sensible sequence results in a cracking little alt mode. Its basically a slightly squished version of Classics Sunstreaker's alt mode (a license dodging composite of Ferrari's Gallardo and Diablo), but more successfully done. The colours match, there's a nice splash of red on the bonnet and the white bodywork is complimented by the blacked out windows.
In short, Breakdown is a real triumph, and along with Scattorshot and Skystalker, is a must own figure from the ROTF Scout Class series.123124
