Death's Head

Scattorshot is another one of the Autobots’ heavily armed infantry men and another highlight of the Revenge Of The Fallen line. The name is a reuse of the modern spelling of Scattorshot that cropped up during the tremendous Unciron trilogy, and the character himself is a homage to the half track Cybertron tank of the same name. Quite why every line has to now have a name reuse character that is granted ‘homage’ status, I don’t know, but I guess it keeps someone in a job and some consumers happy somewhere. Me, I could care less, so long as the toy is good.
Like a lot of recent Scout Class toys, Scattorshot does feel like he’s been squished down from a Deluxe Class toy. The level of detail and slight complexity in the transformation do feel like he was meant for a different size class. The upshot of this is we get something approaching an ‘apology’ from Hasbro in the form of a lot of colour, paint apps and detail.
The armoured pickup truck is a suitably fierce piece of kit. Those roof mounted guns can be swung about and around to pick off enemy targets, and he can clear the wrecks that fall with that plough attachment on the front. Moving him to robot mode isn’t too fiddly, except where the arms are concerned (these will also be a pain when trying to get him back into vehicle mode). The back folds down to reveal the head, the doors/roof pop out and rotate around to form the arms and finally the front rotates back and splits in two to form the feet. Job done.
As with Brawn, Scattorshot is quite the bruiser, heavily armoured and wielding those two arm cannons (which have a ‘trigger’ that his open hands can grasp – nice touch). He is a little oddly proportioned, but those huge feet mean he is incredibly stable in any pose you want to put him in, and that large amount of back/shoulder kibble doesn’t threaten to unbalance him. The head is a bit of a mixed bag. The face sculpt is cracking, a slightly skeletal face, with respirator mouthpiece and beady little eyes. The rest of the head is covered in a slightly bland looking helmet, which rather undoes the good work done with the face. If the detail on the face had been carried over it would have made Scattorshot look less like one of those special needs kids that has to wear a crash helmet.
Whilst not at the top tier of Revenge Of The Fallen toys, Scattorshot is never the less a good, undemanding figure that adds a bit of punch to the Autobots’ ranks.
