View Full Version : Post Auto Assembly 2011 Gubbins - How Was Your Weekend?

Thought I'd do this before I forget. So, how did everyone enjoy themselves this weekend? I had a pretty good time.
I tried getting to the TFnet meet up, but unfortunately I got caught up talking to someone and arrived about 1:40 and no one was there. Did anyone turn up? Was it a good lunch time old knee's up?
Toys.. Ahem, Action Figures
As per usual, I only bought a only few toys (not enough room) and got some really good art prints. I bought a fairly decent condition Sludge and Slag (plus all weapons and Slags box). Probably cheaper on Ebay, but I think holding them in my hands and making sure they weren't floppy pieces of crap was worth it. I took a chance on the Causality Flameblast (http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/2278), which was surprisingly good. So good, my friend saw me messing about with it and asked me to go get the Jeep for him. Also got some sort of Goldfish Seacon.
Other Stuff
I thought all the guests were great (David White actually remembering stuff from G1 was awesome), but the highlight on the weekend was getting them to sign the poster I did for the AA magasine. Usually the guests are fairly nice about it (Scott McNeil went a bit nuts), but this time, both Gregg and David offered to pay me for the complimentary copies I gave them! Gregg thought I was one of the guest artists, and when I explained I wasn't , he said I should get a table and start selling prints, LoL.
Talking to the guests is one of the main draws for me going. Makes me fell all warm and fuzzy, almost like.. booze.
I also talked to Nick Roche a few times and got him to sign the poster (as he's featured in it). On Friday my friend cornered Dave Wallace, who then cornered Nick and showed him the poster. Then when I went to get it actually signed on Saturday, I asked him to pretend he hadn't seen it before. His response was pretty funny ;) I gave him a copy and he gave me an Overlord poster in return. He's a very nice guy :)
Unfortunately Sunday dragged on a bit for me, mainly because I'd gotten everything done on Saturday. Was still good, but it feels a bit odd when you've got everything you want and a whole day to fill out.
... And the furry Shattered Glass Ravage should have totally won the cosplay competition. She even rolled on the floor while I took a picture of her. Can't say that about many women I've met :D

Shattered Glass Ravage was brilliant, but I'm glad that Blackarachnia won - that suit was amazing!! (PLUS it brought out the fanboy in me!!)
I also nearly cried with laughter after watching this:

It was good while the speakers were working, LoL.
If anyone wants, I can post up my photos and videos once I've got my shizzle sorted.

I was at Auto Assembly for the weekend with my wife- we had a blast. Like DeadCal, Sunday dragged on some for my wife and I too. The fact the sound for the projections kept messing up was a pain, since my wife and I had to rely on the videos for a source of entertainment during Sunday when nothing else was going on.
However, apart from that, we thought it was great- as it always is -to see plenty of people who love Transformers having a great time in one venue. We'll be back next year, especially with the guests already confirmed. :)
First post- woo! ;)

Is she a fan also? I noticed a few confused looking partners being dragged around, LoL. Especially the girlfriend of one of the cosplay girls. My friend has seen them there over the past few years, and she does a very good impression of someone who does not look impressed.

Oh yeah, my wife loves Transformers as much as I do. In fact, she's signed up to the forums under the name Tenko, so we're stalking this place together. She used to watch Beast Wars when she was younger, then I got her more into it after she met me. She loves the characters from G1, especially Decepticons. It was her second Auto Assembly this year, and she loves every minute of it. I consider myself rather lucky to have a wife who's as into Transformers as I am.
You need to tell me more about the girlfriends you were talking about. I think I have an idea who you're talking about, DeadCal, but I'm not entirely sure.

I would post the pictures I took, but every time I try to post them, I get a little error symbol come up!! I'll carry on trying though!

I'm pretty sure it's the girl who was dressed as Armada Megatron. She's been for the past few years I think. I think people refer to her as Starscream girl, as that's how she was first dressed when everyone first noticed.

Are you trying to upload or link them from elsewhere? I noticed the upload function is a bit dodgy on the new forum.

I'm trying to upload them - I keep getting error messages and it's REALLY starting to get on my nerves!
I have however, just managed to post a picture of my haul!
Go check it out!!

Umm... Armada Megatron girl is my friend Isa. As, much as she may like you to believe it, she does not have a girlfriend :P And if the "girlfriend" is who I think it is, she's my friend too and only loves Megatron girl in a bromosexual way :P

Ah OK, well I'll take note of that next time my friend starts chirping up about it.

Yeah, Isa and Tori. Been friends with Isa since she played "Starscream Girl" in 2009. Only really started to get to know Tori in recent months. We're both crazy for Paul Eiding / Perceptor.
Now, I DO have a feeling I know who you're on about. My friend Phil (or "The Rod" from my own forum) brought his fiancée with him this year, and she pretty much had that uncomfortable look on her face the whole weekend, poor lass.

If they are both fans it can't be both of them, the other person I keep getting pointed out looked very bored. Oh well, doesn't matter. I'm sure they'll get pointed out to me again next year, and we'll all have the same conversation again, LoL.
Also, I've just noticed how many video and and pictures I've got to sort out and post, might have to be a Flickr job.

Yey for pictures :) Mine are on facebook, but may end up moving some over here if we have an official thread or some such for our AA meet pictures.

If anyone wants to send a friend request through on Facebook, can you say who you are on the forum etc. Trying to work it out from a small photo on someone's private profile is a bit difficult.

Good weekend. Didn't spend too much, but still got hold of some tremendous merchandise. G2 Superion, a slot machine Transformer and a blue Bumblebee thing, among other brilliant items including a charming orange robot whose foot ended up in a gin and tonic. Nice one.
I think it was my 7th AA and still no-one's mentioned the 12 steps.
These days, I only really go to catch up with the usual suspects. I reckon I recognise around 85% of the attendees. which is handy because it meand I know when to hide. The full weekend is just a touch too long for me, I must be getting old.
Still looking forward to next year though. Good work as ever. One improvement I would make is to use some sort of tipper-truck merchandising system and labelling in braille only to make the fan-sales table run that little bit more smoothly.
I also very much enjoyed the service in Wetherspoons. There's nothing like motivated, competent staff eager to bring you your food before it's colder than Thatcher in the arctic.

That was the worst fecking Wetherspoons on the planet!!! I honestly should've learnt my lesson from last year, yet I went there twice again this year! The staff are terrible, their waitresses are either complete stressheads or sarcastic twots, and the food is always cold.
The Square Peg, near Forbidden Planet, is a hell of a lot better.

The square peg's an absolute dive mate. It's just round the corner from my office and is always the 'joke destination' when we're in disagreement over where to go for a quick one.

Is that the one with the really long bar? Whichever one that is seems vaguely alright to me. Just, the shape of the premises doesn't lend itself especially well to mass congregation.

I looked on Google maps and the nearest Wearherspoons was a long walk. Oh well, gotta find somewhere different next year. Luckily it's one stop sooner on my train trip.
