Death's Head

Wreck Gar, like a lot of the 1986 Movie stars, had always looked way better on screen than his actual toy of the time. Which was an horrific blocky turd laughed at by the Gobots' Cy-Kill. Not so for this outing. Wreck Gar comes in robot mode and like all the the Reveal The Shield toys, completely destroys the point of the gimmick by having his allegiance clearly stamped all over the back of the pack (although it would have been nice for the Junkions to have a faction symbol of their own). His robot mode has enough nods to the original model sheet - the facial hair, nipple turrets (or whatever they are) - and enough nice modern touches to make him feel fresh and relevant in much the same way ROTF Bludgeon does, for instance.
Best of all, Wreck Gar feels like a quality product. The paint apps and plastics are crisp and sharp. The detailing is excellent, and even though I hate them, the grey plastics don't feel the usual cheap ugliness they do on other Transformers toys. Thanks to some nice universal and ball joints, Wreck Gar can strike a number of poses. He can also grasp that mental looking blade axe thing with both hands, which I really like. The face sculpt is great, with the red eyes making Wreck Gar look less like the comic relief he's constantly portrayed as. The flame decals are nicely done without looking too 'tatoo parlour' and he just looks fab overall. If there are any points of criticism, it would be that the designers struggled a bit with the wheels, and that one dangling about above his left shoulder looks a bit cumbersome and his head is slightly sunken into the chest, meaning his shoulders are higher than his neck.
Wreck Gar is a suprisingly complex figure to arrange into his vehicle mode. Whilst it looks achievable, it's something I've continually had to refer to the instructions to figure out. It's not especially complex, but it is one of those sequences that becomes easier with familarity.
Although no longer a Norton or Harley type bike the like of which you might see a Hell's Angel on (oh calamity and woe!), Wreck Gar is a cracking dirtbike, with only the visible robot hands peaking out from the centre of the engine block giving the game away.
The mould is so good, that were Hasbro to trot this out again (hopefully with a different head sculpt like in the instructions) i wouldn't hesitate to buy it again, it's that good. He is a superbly designed and engineered figure and worthy of a place in any collection, whether you're a Classics fan or not.
