Death's Head

Hubcap is a nice 1950’s hot rod styled car, also reminiscent of the Generation 2 Laser Rod Volt. The alt mode is beautiful. Very smooth, unspoiled by join lines (in the main) and accented with some silver paint on the exhaust and er, hubcaps (!).
The other winning aspect is Hubcap’s simplicity. Hold the back of the car and stand the car up is about as fancy as transforming Hubcap gets. Fold the grill down to form the chest and reveal the head and that’s it, job done. A great example of how a simple transformation can be well executed.
Hubcap’s robot mode is pretty good. He’s got the usual 10+ points of articulation, and those big feet mean he’s not likely to fall over. Unfortunately, Hubcap’s robot mode is spoilt by the ham-fisted paint application to his head, where someone has just jabbed a paint brush with a dollop of orange paint in his face, and the lovely red and silver of the lat mode becomes red and dull grey plastic. A pity, because you can imagine how awesome this mould could look if some other colour choices for the plastics had been used. I’m instantly thinking of an alt mode that’s black with flames on, with teal or purple or dark blue plastics used for the robot mode.
Still, one of the better Scout class toys, if lacking a little care.
