Death's Head

Razorbeast may now be something of a cult favourite, thanks to his starring role in IDWs Beast Wars comics, but back in the day he was just the latest in the line of Beast Wars toys. He's one of those Transformers who looks superb in one mode and not so great in the other.
Looking at the pictures below, its not hard to work out which mode is a bit of a mess. The wild boar mode not only suffers from some horrendous join lines - which give the head a horrible 'chelsea smile' look, but also some slightly spindly legs. Despite these obvious flaws, there's some good muscle definition and the bulk of the toy is a good match for the real thing. The colours do scream 'Pumbaa' though.
Transformation takes no time at all, thanks to the nifty flip-changing gimmick, leaving you with the mode that really sells Razorbeast. His robot mode is superb. Nicely detailed and sculpted, with a similar level of muscle definition carried over to the robot mode. There's a slightly angry look to the robot mode, thanks to that grilled faceplate and horned head design, not to mention the knuckle dusters and spiked knees. The way the boar halves frame the robot mode is also fantastic giving Razorbeast a great sillouette helped in no small part by having those beast legs able to successfully fold up behind his back, unlike the similarly executed Rattrap. The only thing that does let him down is his hand held weapon - the world's deadliest hair piece.Or cowpat. So it's just as well it can be fitted to give Razorbeast some shoulder cannons, which looks much better.
Being something of a halfway house, Razorbeast shouldn't be an essential purchase, despite having been touched by the hand of Furman.
