Death's Head

Thrust. Stop sniggering at the back. One of the three new jets added to the Decepticon ranks in 1985. As with Ramjet and Dirge, there’s something about Thrust that even now makes him look fresh and interesting. Perhaps it’s the burst of colour amongst the Decepticon ranks that these three represented, I don’t know. A slightly modified F-15, Thrust has a completely different wing arrangement to the likes of Thundercracker, unusually featuring some sort of VTOL engines in his wings (if indeed that’s what they are, I think they just look kind of cool). He has a nice deep red/ burgundy colour scheme broken with some flashes of white on the wings.

As with the other Decepticon jets, all you do is pull bits off and stick them back on to form the robot, so in terms of Transformation, he’s pretty feeble. The robot mode is pretty much the same as the 1984 Seekers, but just looks that bit better, thanks to those wings. As you may have noticed from my pictures, my example has developed the big fault with this mould – the cockpit/head eventually becomes so loose through repeated play that the only way to get it to stay in place is to mis-transform this section by tucking it behind the waist, rather than in front of it. My Thrust has good days and bad days with this part of his body. This was a bad day, so hence his slightly odd appearance in my pictures. At least he isn’t staring at the sky.

Thrust, like all the Decepticon jets, is a pretty weak Transformer. He just rates a little higher by having a nicer colour and some interesting design elements, but is by no means essential. Whether that merits you forking out £35 for a loose and complete version, or £150+ for the limited issue Takara release, is for you to decide, personally, I’d recommend the cheaper option of getting a decent example with a bit of playwear and most of his accessories. It’ll save you money and disappointment.
