Death's Head

Sky Shadow would be great were he not so…green. Perhaps the weakest of the Fuzors in so much that he doesn’t look much like a fusion of two beasts and just a lizard with wings. The beast mode is pretty fearsome, with that excellent snarly looking face, highly detailed body with scales and segmented wings. The paint applications are pretty minimal, basically resulting in a green topside and dark blue underside and a great red head. The colours are all so loud that they jostle for attention whereas a more suitable grading and blending would have worked better, as it is the colour palette exerts far too much force on the senses. Pushing a tab on the creature’s back makes the wings scissor back and forth. Sky Shadow has some good articulation in beast mode, able to move his legs and jaw.
The transformation to robot mode pretty much involves standing the lizard up and swinging the tail up to reveal the robot head. There’s a clever sequence involving getting the arms into position by splitting the back of the beast open and moving the wing / beast head out to the sides to form the arms. As with Transquitto and Jetstorm, Sky Shadow features a missile launcher in his mouth – a feature that wouldn’t be so bad did it not mean that you end up with the tail of the missile poking out of the back of his head. Being kibble free in robot mode, Sky Shadow can make the best use of the ball joint technology that made the transformers proper action figures.
Were it not for the slightly vulgar colour scheme, Sky Shadow would be a superb figure. If you can get past that, then Sky Shadow is a great figure and one of the less mental Fuzors.
