Hightower is one of the more dismal modern Transformers names to have been devised and reused over the last few years. It wouldn’t be so bad were it not terribly bland and, well, a bit rubbish. Particularly when used on a Decepticon. It’s hardly a dangerous or cool sounding name, conjuring up images of skyscrapers and blocks of flats rather than skilled warrior robots.

Despite the rubbish name, Hightower is cool little crane truck. He features a jib that can be raised and lowered, and the whole crane can be rotated about. Good fun. As with all six wheeled Micromasters, two of the wheels double as joins for the robot mode arms so are purely decorative. This wouldn’t look so obvious if silver rivets were used on these dummy wheels as well as the moveable ones.

The robot mode is an impressive little guy. Nicely proportioned and detailed with a good head sculpt to eek out a bit of personality. As with all Micromasters, he follows the same transformation sequence of having either the front or the back of the vehicle mode forming the legs and the arms just dropping down from panels on the sides of the vehicle mode. It’s not sophisticated or complex, but its acceptable enough, if repetitive. The genius with these Micromasters comes in making a good job of working in the various connection points for the gestalt mode whilst making the component figures work in their own right.
