This Micromaster version of Scavenger is a great little toy. As with some other Scavengers, this version is a power shovel construction vehicle. The vehicle mode is nicely detailed and surprisingly sporty looking, as far as such things go. The crane displays a nice bit of functionality, able to rotate through 360 degrees and move the arm. The bucket is fixed, but at this scale that’s fair enough. The toy rolls nicely enough and it eschews the usual Micromaster sop of having an additional pair of ‘false’ wheels and the designers have left this a happy little four wheeler.

As ever, transformation follows the same pattern it does for 95% of the Mictromaster toys, with the legs being formed from the front end of the vehicle and you just turning it upside down to reveal the robot. Well, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. It is a bit disappointing that imaginative transformations for these tiny Transformers are at a premium overall, but it’s more forgivable on these gestalt members.

The robot mode is decent by the line’s standards. Nicely detailed, a good sculpt and some nice details and paint apps. It’s nothing that hasn’t been seen before, but it’s as good as what preceded it. I think that’s what I like most about the Micromasters as a whole – how consistently great these little toys are. The robot modes, whatever one thinks of the different vehicle forms – are all excellent with very few missing the mark and Scavenger is another great addition to the ranks.
