Not looking like ass for the most part. Not sure where you're getting $90 from, but retail in Japan is 5800 Yen - about £45 - and if the exchange rate now was what it was when Binaltechs were around, it'd be under £30. Which really isn't unreasonable.

That's what US and European stores are asking for him.

$90 based on pre order prices from bbts and tfsource (as a quick rough guide). I just feel thats a lot for a 7" toy. Alternity was a turn off for exactly the same reason. Granted binaltech averaged about £40 but you could see where your money had gone.given that engineering hasn't improved/advanced since then,i can't proclaim this a 'win'.as i say,a cheaper hasbro import would do it for me.i just don't think the figure is worth what is being asked.particularly if it comes with takaras usual slew of q.c problems.

Can we just get something straight - as much as I like my alternators, Binaltech was not a good line. Take Binaltech Sideswipe (ironically) an an example. Even when you get past the fact that he has the wrong body entirely, he is a horrendously kibble-compromised figure.

Binaltechs are prone to scratching and often cannt stand to hold their own weight owing to the amount of diecast.

Yes. I like them. But let's not pretend they are masterpieces. How many of them ended up using incorect bodies in the end! Sideswipe, Windcharger, Optimus Prime, Prowl - they're the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

They look great next to MP Prime, that's how I display mine. But from the looks of things, they are *far* more floored than the new masterpiece offerings.

Well to be fair, you're using two of the most expensive import stores in the US as a price guide. Like I said, the actual retail in Japan is £45, and even then it's only that high because of the terrible exchange rate. In Yen, it's only a 16% price increase on the original Binaltechs - since then there's been 6-7 years of inflation and a drastic rise in the cost of materials.

Saying engineering hasn't improved since 2005 is nonsense. The difference between Transformers of then and now is like night and day.

I'm not saying that Binaltech / Alts or anything are better - And you're right, it probably isn't fair to judge a line like Binaltech -which wasn't a slavish update of G1 despite it leaning that way -just that they fulfill the same expectation of this toy. And i will stick by my guns about the engineering - the swivel, ball , pin and ratchet joints common in all Transformers these days have been around for ten years (longer for some examples). The only real innovation in engineering have come in the prime line on the likes of Ratchet and Wheeljack where sections of the vehicle swivel about to get robot limbs. There isn't much to distinguish a Powercore combiner (for example) from a Generation 2 Cyberjet. Fair point about exchange rates etc but wont the majority of folk be buying these figures through online retailers..? It'd be nice to pay the retail price in Japan, but thats not going to happen without flying out there.

I'm paying less the retail price for mine from AmiAmi.

You are singling out the weakest figures in the line though. Smokescreen, Silverstreak, Tracks, Hound, and Jazz were great figures and it's too bad the rest of the line didn't meet the standard they set.
