    MTMTE's thread

thought i would start a thread on this series after seeing the 7 page preview
    http://www.seibertron.com/news/view.php?id=23634
in my opinion, i dont like how rouche has changed the characters...AGAIN!!
but think that it may be good if he can keep it up without changeing in the series (which i doubt very much),
    what are your opinions,
    anyone actually getting it?

I'll be getting it, because it does actually look like a decent romp and at least the design changes make sense this time around, the 'bots are no longer on earth, so why do they need Earth-based alt modes?

That was a very long sentence that could have been split up into at least two. For that i apologise.

This is an excellent review that puts in words what I'd probably take 3 weeks to write.

I was very, very impressed. James's writing is very tight, and Nicks Art is startling, but comics aren't about everything being the same all the time. I like the stylised character designs, but I know alot of fans will moan. Cos that's what fans do. Be thankful we're not as bad as Sonic fans. Change Prime's eye colour and suddenly it's be nuclear warfare.

I essentially agree with that review too. I also liked that, as well as setting up the main plot, numerous subplots were included, without seeming forced. Whirl and Tailgate will undoubtedly play interesting roles, as the story plays out.

I hope they hire James to do more . Not all the time, cos then he'd be the norm and we'd end up wanting something 'new and fresh', LoL.

I'd summise the TF comics writing like this.

When Simon Furman writes, things are dramatic and overly complicated, but in a good way.
When James Roberts writes, he brings alot of humanity, and makes me think "Hey, I'd do that joke!".
When anyone else writes, things seem a bit straight forward and matter of fact. Not badly written, but no real flavour.

So James is Salt and Vinegar and Simon is Cheese and Onion.

Just read issue 2... and I can honesty say it's the only time I've read a Transformers comic and guffawed while reading it. We know Mr Furman can do humour, I wish he'd put it in his writing more.

Also, anyone else notice the big robots (OK, they are hard to miss) spouting '1984' to Skids? Was that the year Skids ended up in limbo in the Marvel comic? With that and Rewind buying some 'Golden Discs' off Swindle, I think we might be getting a few property tie ins.

If I recall correctly, Skids didn't even exist until 1985. His main US issue, #20, is from September 1986, and his first US issue, #14, from March the same year. Skids was sent to Limbo in UK #101, Fallen Angel, from February 1987.

If those golden discs turn out to be furry porn I'll be very disappointed.

managed to get to the comic shop yesterday and read both #1 & 2 together. A really impressive opening set of issues. Tailgate is my favourite so far, I loved his slow transformation (!). Roberts has packled a lot into these opening issues and reminds you how much fun Transformers comics can be when they're not mired with writers with no enthusiasm or an editorial team with ADD. I hope Roberts is allowed to plough his own furrow without too much interference. He's done a lot to rehabilitate six years of largely dreadful comics pumped out by IDW. issue two was lots of fun, but I'm a bit wary of the 1984 thing. That's up there with 'Witwicky Sparkplugs;, 'We R 84' and 'Lithonian Drivetrain' slapped all over the toys 'cos some moronic fanboy toy designer thinks its kewl...

Superhero? No, you were right all along. Name's Death's Head. I kill people for a living!
