You probably didn’t notice whilst eating your turkey, but there was some Transformers action on TV over the holidays in the UK.
For anyone who hasn’t picked up Transformers on DVD or Blu-ray, but happen to have Sky, the film make it’s UK TV debut on Sky Movies Premiere (and HD) at 8pm on 27th December. Look out for the continuous repeats on the various Sky Movie channels.
Also airing was The Simpsons episode, Treehouse of Horror XIX, which parodies Transformers with the short, “Untitled Robot Parody”. Like most things Simpsons these days, it wasn’t very good.

According to The Digital Bits, who are very reliable with anything to do with the home video format, Paramount will again be releasing Transformers on DVD and Blu-ray in 2009, to coincide with transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but this time in an extended format.
The most likely length of this new edition will be the Imax version of the film, which added a few needless scenes.
From Paramount, we’re hearing that a Transformers: Extended Edition is planned for DVD and Blu-ray release in 2009, likely timed to coincide with the theatrical release of Bay’s sequel film next summer.

Forum member t-4-e has spotted some new Transformers movie figures at his local Asda store.
Out now in the UK, but in North American packaging, are Breakaway, Grindcore, Divebomb, Big Daddy, Fracture and Crankcase. All of these were previously Wal*Mart store exclusives, who have obviously shipped them out to their subsiderary, Asda, to move them quicker. Each cost £9.99.
Look out for these in other Asda stores soon.

Sorry, forgot to post this on Thursday! Aussie fans now have the chance to watch Michael Bay’s Transformers on Blu-ray, with the release of the Two Disc Special Edition last Thursday. The set is exactly the same as the North American and UK version released last month.
Also out today down under are the Transformers 1 disc editions with the Optimus Prime and Bumblebee masks, but we recommend you give them a miss unless you are a mask collector, or need something for a fancy dress costume.

Here’s some good news for all of you who have bought Transformers on Blu-ray. Paramount Home Entertainment are planning on releasing the first extra material through BD-Live on 30th September. The video, titled “Robot Ninjas’, will look into the battle at the end of the film between Bumblebee and Barricade, featuring home videos and animatics produced by the film’s stunt crew.
The second video, “What Effing Happened in Mission City”, will follow soon after.
There are also rumours that Paramount will include Transformers 2 material in the future to build hype for the sequel.

Empire Magazine have released the first 300 entries in their latest and geatest poll: The 500 Greatest Movies Of All Time. Surprisingly, Transformers is represented with the 2007 movie being ranked at 309, ahead of other comic/kids movies such as X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, Iron-Man, Star Wars Episode III and a lot of Disney/Pixar titles.
The likelihood of the original Transformers The Movie in the top 200 is very slim, but we can hope.

Less than a week after North America, the UK now has Transformers on Blu-ray. The 2 disc set is exactly the same, with BD-LIve features and all the material from the DVD and HD DVD releases.
There is no word on if a store (maybe Asda) are stocking the ROTF videos like Wal*Mart did.

Today sees the release of Michael Bay’s Transformers on Blu-ray in North America. The 2 disc set was originally due to come out last October with the DVD and HD DVD versions, but was cancelled after Paramount and Dreamworks signed an exclusive deal with the HD DVD Group.
The 2 disc set contains all the extra features from the DVD and HD DVD versions, as well as some new BD-LIve features and improved video and audio coding.

Yahoo! Movies have written a special feature about their top supervillians to celebrate The Dark Knight villian, The Joker. Megatron is featured as the fourth photo on the list, for his short role in the Transformers movie. Joined in the list are other recent villians such as Davy Jones, Agent Smith, Magneto and Lord Voldemort.
Here’s how they describe the big bad robot:
A robot that shrinks down into a handgun that other robots have to hold to shoot? Not exactly a threat to the planet. So it’s no surprise that the leader of the Decepticons was given a new “alien jet” vehicle mode for the movie. Not that he needed to turn into something to wreak havoc; he tears poor Jazz in half with his bare hands.
