HD DVD

Written by Big Bot on July 7, 2008 | |

Initially seen as the successor to DVD, HD DVD eventually lost to Blu-ray as the next generation home video format.

Paramount Home Entertainment, who originally supported both formats, became HD DVD exclusive in September 2007 after receiving a lot of money. The 2007 Transformers movie was exclusively released on the format, leading to director Michael Bay threatening to not director the sequel, due to Paramount’s decision.

The format died at the beginning of 2008 when Warner Bros. abandoned the format, followed closely by Universal and finally Paramount.
