Computron (Marvel Comics)

Written by admin on October 11, 2007 | Characters | Tags: ,

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
SUB-GROUP: TECHNOBOT
FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: HEADMASTERS # 3

“Thorough data analysis is essential for the synthesis of successful strategy.”

Profile: Although much admired for his dedication, bravery, skill and intelligence, Computron is an unfortunate example of being too technologically advanced for his own good. Centuries ago on Cybertron the five Autobots who comprise Computron – Afterburner, Nosecone, Strafe, Lightspeed and Scattershot – agreed to apply the new engineering science of mechanical combinatics to themselves so that they could unite to form a super-Autobot to more effectively combat the Decepticons. Scattershot, however, insisted that their combination be better than anyone else’s, that the contribution of each of the five component Autobots to the whole be maximized in every way. The result was not what anyone expected: Computron was created, but as he was programmed to thoroughly and exhaustively analyze the input of each of the five who comprise him, he takes several minutes to form a consensus opinion and make a decision. Any decision. Of course, without exception, the decision he makes is the right one, but very often it comes too late to make a difference. He genuinely regrets when this happens, and feels even worse that he’s unable to do anything to change it. Nevertheless, he is well known for his sharp mind, and respected for it. He chooses every word with great care and precision and takes great pride in knowing that when Computron talks, everybody listens.

Abilities: Computron possesses awesome strength. He can lift up to 240 tons. He has excellent radar and communications capabilities. He possesses extensive data storage and data processing capacities. He is armed with Scattershot’s automatic acid-pellet gun, which shoots capsules containing a highly corrosive liquid that explodes on impact.

Weaknesses: Slow decision-making is Computron’s most glaring liability. He sometimes overheats and breaks down when he attempts to process more data than he can handle.

Windsweeper

Written by admin on | Characters |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: TRIGGERCON

FUNCTION: AIR DEFENSE
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 48

“Uninvited guests soon become smouldering wrecks.”

Profile: Before the war Windsweeper was head of the Department of Sanitation
on Cybertron. He took an almost perverse pride in keeping the streets and subterranean
circuit-tubes of his home world clean and in proper working order. He would
have violators – “litterbots,” as they were called – thrown into prison
for infractions as minor as dripping oil in public. In defense of his extreme
actions he would say, “A tidy planet is a mighty planet,” to his critics.
“Leaky-engined litterbot-lovers,” he would call them behind their
backs. So it is no surprise to anyone who knows him that today he still practices
what he used to preach, but this time in the service of the Decepticons. In
his air defense role he patrols the skies constantly, shooting down almost anything
he sees: insects, birds, wind-blown leaves, kites, Autobots, even other Decepticons
if they are not quick enough to identify themselves before he fires. He feels
that the sky is his home, and so he has the right to keep it as clean as he
wants… in his case, very clean. Among the Transformers, Windsweeper’s meticulousness
is notorious… as is his maliciousness.

Abilities: In jet mode Windsweeper has the ability to use the high-intensity
heat generators in the edges of his wings to melt and cut through solid steel.
Most often the steel is contained within the fuselages of enemy aircraft. He
has a maximum speed of 2100 miles per hour and a range of 5000 miles. In both
robot and jet modes he is also equipped with long-range infra-red scanners,
sensitive enough to detect a warm lug nut in a junkyard 20 miles away. He is
also armed with two powerful, lock-target, long-range laser cannons.

Weaknesses: Windsweeper’s natural revulsion to dirt, grime, and all
things untidy in general elicits a pronounced unbalanced behavior pattern in
him. He loses his ability for clear, logical thinking, he becomes agitated and
emotional, and on especially disturbing occasions he has been known to literally
blow a fuse. Basically, the best offensive measure to take against Windsweeper
is to throw garbage at him.

Wheelie

Written by admin on | Characters |

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
FUNCTION: SURVIVALIST

FIRST APPEARANCE: THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE # 3

“Only the fierce shall live.”

Profile: Wheelie is the “wild boy” of Quintesson – an Autobot-like
youth lost when his ship went down, the only survivor of his party, staying
alive by cunning and stealth and fearlessness. He speaks in odd, rhyming sentences
and despises the Sharkticons and Quintessons, who are his mortal enemies. He
is a staunch friend to the Dinobots, who take to him immediately, and a reliable
ally in difficulties for Hot Rod and Kup when they take on the Sharkticons.

Abilities: He fights only when he’s under attack and has to defend himself.
He uses a three-bladed knife and a sling which hurls fire stones when he must
attack his enemies or defend himself.

Vortex

Written by admin on | Characters |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: COMBATICON
FUNCTION: INTERROGATION

FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 24

“I’m Vortex, fly me – if you dare!”

Profile: Vortex always gives you a ride to remember – in your nightmares!
He takes an evil, cackling delight in trapping Autobots inside him and taking
them on a spinning, dizzying flight of death-defying aerial stunts. As the Combaticon
interrogator, he finds it an extremely effective – and enjoyable – way of doing
his job. Autobots are easy prey to his techniques: Vortex grabs them off the
ground, lifts them in the air and attempts to coerce them into divulging secrets.
When Vortex is finished with the Autobots, he lets them plummet to the ground.
A free ride from Vortex is definitely not worth the price.

Abilities: In helicopter mode, Vortex can attain a speed of 300 mph.
His range is 1200 miles. He can whirl his rotor blades fast enough to create
wind funnels that spin at speeds of 200-300 mph, powerful enough to lift a locomotive
off its rails. He can suspend himself in the air in almost any position, which
allows him to direct these funnels anywhere he wants. In robot mode, he uses
a semi-automatic glue gun. It shoots capsules of highly adhesive liquid that
will cement anything it hits to anything its target touches. Vortex combines
with his fellow Combaticons to form the giant robot “Bruticus.”

Weaknesses: Although Vortex’s wind funnels can be a devastating weapon,
its use reduces his maneuverability and leaves him vulnerable to attack. It
also subjects his rotor blades to extreme stress and possible metal fatigue
and fracturing.

Long Haul

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: CONSTRUCTICON

FUNCTION: TRANSPORT
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 10

“A battle front is only as good as its supply line.”

Profile: Long Haul isn’t too thrilled with his unglamorous role in the
Decepticon cause, but he understands its importance. Along with his fellow Constructicons,
his function is to help build the massive energy-recovery installations that
fuel the Decepticon onslaught. But he’d much prefer the excitement and glory
that come with being a full-time warrior. And he knows better than to tell anyone
of his secret desire – Megatron allows no dissent among the Decepticons ranks.

Abilities: In vehicular mode, Long Haul can carry up to 90 tons for
1200 miles. He can also add on a dual heat-seeking missile launcher. In robot
mode he carries a laser pistol. When combined with his fellow Constructicons,
he serves as the torso module in the giant robot known as Devastator.

Weaknesses: Long Haul is slow and sometimes his unhappiness reduces
his effectiveness. He’s sensitive to teasing about the mundane nature of his
job and can often be goaded into fights in which he may be clearly overmatched.

Drag Strip

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: STUNTICON

FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 22

“The first one to cross the finish line lives!”

Profile: Drag Strip would rather be scrapped than lose. It doesn’t matter
what the competition is he’s involved in – racing, fighting or even just trading
insults – Drag Strip always aims to come out on top. Maybe it’s because he needs
to feel important, maybe he enjoys humiliating others. It makes no difference;
to beat an opponent, he’ll pull the nastiest, most underhanded tricks. And he
relishes his victories – he makes certain everyone within earshot knows about
them. He loves to gloat. His fellow Stunticons feel he’s a selfish, egotistical
boor and would just as soon not have him around. Even Decepticon Leader Megatron
finds him insufferable and would sooner smelt him than talk to him. But he knows
that as rotten as Drag Strip is for the Decepticons to be around, he’s even
worse company for the Autobots. And that, in Megatron’s opinion, is a character
trait to be much admired.

Abilities: In car mode, Drag Strip can reach speeds of 250 mph and comes
equipped with a plasma energy blaster that shoots an explosive ball of energy
a distance of 2000 yards. In robot mode, he uses a gravito-gun that enhances
the gravitational field of a localized area so that anyone walking into the
area would either be crushed by the increased gravity or have his body ripped
apart as the gravity pulls him from different directions. He combines with his
fellow Stunticons to form the giant robot, Menasor.

Weaknesses: In car mode, Drag Strip is prone to overheating, particularly
at high speeds. His cooling system has been known to explode. He also suffers
from the ill will of many of his fellow Decepticons, a definite liability in
battle when he might require their cooperation.

Grimlock

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
SUB-GROUP: DINOBOT
FUNCTION: DINOBOT COMMANDER

FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 4

“Among the winners, there is no room for the weak.”

Profile: The most fearsome and powerful of the Dinobots, Grimlock would
gladly usurp Optimus Prime’s role as Autobot Commander if he thought he could
get away with it. For now, he’s happy to tear into the enemy Decepticons whenever
he can and wait for a more opportune moment to try for the leadership. He can
be cold and merciless, and shows contempt for those he views as weak, such as
humans and even some fellow Autobots. But he is a valiant warrior and his actions
command respect from all who are witness to them, both friend and foe.

Abilities: Grimlock’s strength is second only to Optimus Prime’s, and
even that is arguable. In Dinobot mode he can use his powerful jaws to snap
in two virtually anything that comes between them – from a 4-foot diameter steel
cable to a Decepticon leg. In Autobot mode he wields an energo-sword, which
can slice a 2-foot thick concrete wall with one sweep of its crackling blade.
He also uses a double-barrelled, self-propelled rocket launcher.

Weaknesses: Other than arrogance and lack of speed, Grimlock has no
significant weaknesses.

Arcee (Marvel Comics)

Written by admin on | Characters | Tags: ,

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE # 1

“Looks are always deceiving.”

Profile: A sweet, kind, and loyal Autobot to her friends, Arcee is also a merciless, lethal warrior to her enemies. Arcee’s intelligence, quick wit, and coolness under fire make her invaluable to the Autobot cause. The Decepticons constantly underrate her because, since to them she so closely resembles the female humans of Earth which the Decepticons have absolutely no respect for, they believe she is beneath their consideration. It is an attitude that Arcee exploits with deadly efficiency.

Arcee is very protective of the human, Danny Witwicky, son of Spike Witwicky, the long-time Earthling friend of the Autobots. In fact, sometimes Arcee is a bit overly protective of him and treats Danny almost like a fragile Ming vase since his skin is not composed of a supremely tough metal alloy like hers.

Arcee is attracted to the Autobot, Hot Rod, who reciprocates the affection. But neither of them is willing to admit it openly. If one were to listen to the verbal pot-shots they take at each other, one would think that they were the bitterest of enemies. But catch one of the Autobots, or worse, a Decepticon, making a disparaging remark about Hot Rod in Arcee’s presence and the offender will more often than not find his hydraulic hoses sliced to ribbons before he knows it.

Weaknesses: Arcee’s concern for Danny sometimes causes her to take excessive
risks in order to protect him.
