Transformers Animated Premiere Review

Written by Big Bot on December 18, 2007 | Animated,Cartoon,News |

Transformers fan Ben Yee, who was the fan consultant on Beast Wars, has seen the 70 minute movie of Transformers: Animated and has provided a lengthy summary and his personal thoughts of the episode.

Here is a small part that should get you excited and make you head over and read it:

I’ve given this review a good day and a half worth of thought before writing it because I wanted to let “Animated” sink in. I rewatched it a few times to see if my initial positive was just that, an initial reaction that would not repeat itself later. However, even after a fourth viewing I have to say without a doubt that Hasbro and Cartoon Network have teamed together to create the freshest Transformers series in years.

The episode will be airing on 26th December in the USA. We hope to have our review on it at the time.

Transformers Animated Premier: 5th January 2008

Written by Big Bot on | Animated,Cartoon,Hasbro,News,Press Release |

Cartoon Network and Hasbro have sent out a press release for the airing of the premier of Transformers Animated in North America. The new cartoon series will start off with a 90 minute movie on 26th December at 8 p.m. (ET, PT), titled “Transform and Roll Out!”.

The series will kick off proper on 5th January next year on Cartoon Network Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (ET, PT).

There is currently no news on any international release but expect a torrent online shortly after the premier.

There’s more than meets the eye when Cartoon Network premieres a 90-minute feature presentation of Transformers Animated Movie “Transform and Roll Out!” on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at 8 p.m. (ET, PT). The adventure begins when Optimus Prime and his small crew of Autobots come into possession of the AllSpark, a powerful Cybertronian artifact that attracts the attention of their long-forgotten enemies, the Decepticons, and sends them crashing to a strange and distant planet known as Earth.

The movie kicks off the brand new series, Transformers Animated, set to premiere on Cartoon Network Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. (ET, PT). Set on Earth in the near future in Detroit, the series begins when the alien Transformers are thrust into a world populated by humans and automatons. As visitors to Earth, the Transformers –Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Prowl, Bulkhead and Ratchet– work in the human world, interacting with the ‘natives’ in exciting and humorous ways. Following the Autobots across the galaxy to their new home, is the megalomaniacal Megatron and his army of ruthless Decepticons, a brutal race of war-mongering robots who seek to use the AllSpark as their ultimate weapon of destruction!

The Autobots unlikely guide through Earth society is a brash, energetic 8-year-old girl named Sari Sumdac, the adopted daughter of a robotics magnate. Setting the Autobots up with their headquarters in an old abandoned auto plant on the outskirts of town, Sari not only becomes an “honorary Autobot” by enlightening them on such mysteries of Earth life such as megamalls, holovision, hoverboards, junk food, and basic hanging out, but also becomes a vital component of the team in their adventures. For the AllSpark endows Sari with a very special power, one the Decepticons would love to get their hands on, not to mention the AllSpark itself.

Transformers Animated is jointly developed by Cartoon Network and Hasbro, Inc. and is co-produced by Cartoon Network Studios. Matt Youngberg (Teen Titans, The Batman) is supervising director, Derrick Wyatt (Teen Titans) provides the character designs and Sam Register (Ben 10, Teen Titans) serves as executive producer of the series. Marty Isenberg (Danny Phantom., X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) acts as head writer.

Hasbro and HPG, its licensing division, will expand the action-packed Transformers Animated series through toys, games, licensed merchandise and promotions around the world.

Hasbro (NYSE:HAS) is a worldwide leader in children’s and family leisure time entertainment products and services, including the design, manufacture and marketing of games and toys ranging from traditional to high tech. Transformers Animated Half Episode Review

Written by Big Bot on November 5, 2007 | Animated,Cartoon,News |

With half the first episode of Transformers Animated being previewed at Nordic Mini-Con Transformers convention, the reviews and feedback have commenced and it’s generally very positive. Here are the comments from Groundsplitter of The Nordic TransFans Association:

It was a very interesting preview though, and I can tell you that even though I were very sceptical when I saw the first posters for the series a while ago, I think the cartoon may turn out to be quite entertaining. What struck me the most is that it seems all the characters will be portrayed with distinct personalities – a very welcome change compared to the three latest series, were most of the characters were blank slates.
There were also quite a few nods to the old fans – I haven’t seen the clips on YouTube so I don’t know what has been shown before, but the show actually starts with Optimus Prime looking at some archive clips from the war that ended a few hundred years ago – clips that are taken straight from the original G1 cartoon! And Ratchet is said to have taken part of that war, which poses the question if this is the original Ratchet, or just someone who shares the name.

Some other notes:

Animated takes place in the 22nd century (or was it 23rd?). Some notes (I don’t know what is already known so bear with me):

Blitzwing has three faces, although the third wasn’t very clear (the entire Decepticon scene is in the dark). First is the strict monocled guy, the second is a very clichéd Arnie “stupid” German accent and the third was just crazy and singing. Not too sure about this guy, but he might make a cool toy.

Allspark looks vaguely Matrix-shaped with handles, but it’s much bigger. So far the only Allspark-carrier has been… Ratchet

Blackarachnia is exactly her BW self (her alt mode is considered organic, btw) and Starscream is exactly his G1 self, personality-wise.

Ratchet has a mix of Ironhide/Kup with the “old-timer” personality thing going on. As mentioned, not clear whether he is actually THE Ratchet.

Sentinel (Prime) is an officer in the Autobot army and Ultra Magnus is the Supreme Commander who bosses Optimus around.

Optimus trained at the Autobot academy and is going about doing heroic stuff from the very beginning, but there must be a reason why he’s stuck on a crappy repair mission…

Optimus’ axe has quite a few features except the energon blade. It has a rocket thruster on it, and the handle can extend Dragonball style for him to do polevaults. Somehow Optimus can also fire nets.
