    Simon Furman interview at CNI

After teasing us with Terminator related interviews all week, Simon Furman has finally sat down and talked about Transformers (yah!). CNI caught up with him and discussed all sorts about Transformers, from the current IDW series, to working for Dreamwave and Marvel to the Movie Prequel.

There are some spoilers relating to the IDW series and how the Spotlights fit in, so only read if you don’t mind.

CNI Who is your favorite Transformers character and why?Furman I hate this question, because the answer is always Grimlock and everyone always groans. I just love borderline, conflicted characters. You (and the reader) never know what theyre going to do next! But, Ive taken pains to sideline Grimlock (so far) in the Infiltration/Escalation/Devastation-verse, so I am coming to appreciate other characters.

The full interview can be found here.

    Ascending Info from Simon Furman

    Written by admin on April 4, 2007 | Beast Wars,Comics,IDW Publishing,News |

Simon Furman has kindly updated his new blog with some information on the second (The Gathering being the 1st) Beast Wars comic series, “Beast Wars The Ascending”. He mainly focuses on the first issue, with which he has just finish the script for (and the reason for this blog post). The first issue is out in September.

“We get a good look in on the planetary status quo, focusing on the overall command structure/hierarchy and special groups such as The Pack. And its there we meet our new big bad. And I do mean big. What else? Well, we also see how Razorbeast and his earthbound (chronally displaced) Maximals are doing (and what Ravages Preds are up to). We find out what happened to Magmatron, and we learn the ultimate fate of Cybertron (and this is just issue #1!). Phew.”

Being released at the same time are the Beast Wars Profile Books which feature ALL Beast Wars characters (yes, including the Japanese ones).

Simon’s full blog post can be read here.

    Interview with Chris Ryall

    Written by admin on April 3, 2007 | Comics,IDW Publishing,Interviews,News |

The Cybertron Phillippines website has scored an interview with IDW editor in chief. In it, he talks about 2007, IDW’s overall Transformers experience (so far) and what he likes and doesn’t about what IDW have done so far. Here is the pick of the interview

    > What 2007 IDW project has you most excited? Aside from the Movie Prequel theres BW The Ascending, the Best Of art books, the BW profile books, the US relaunch of Target 2006, more Spotlights, TF Devastation

    E) All of the above. And there’s something else with Don in the works that no one knows about that has me excited, too. I really like where the story goes in Devastation, so that and Beast Wars have me really geeked out. Matched only by seeing my name as co-writer in the Prequel comics

    Next Spotlight Character Officially Revealed!

    Written by admin on April 2, 2007 | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News |

Chris Ryall has decided to celebrate his birthday (today) by giving the fandom a nice present. We’ve all but hearing rumours about who is the star in the next issue of the Spotlight series (after Galvatron). Now, through a large scan of the variant cover, we have our answer; Optimus Prime.

The comic is being written by Simon Furman with art by Don Figueroa, coming to you in Spetember. The variant cover is by…well, Chris won’t tell but he has been with IDW for a while and has not done anything Transformers related before.
