Simon Furman Interviewed

Written by Big Bot on January 29, 2008 | Comics,Dreamwave,IDW Publishing,Interviews,Marvel,News,Titan |

TFW2005 have sat down with comic writer Simon Furman and discussed his work on Transformers comics, but also his views on the Transformers movie, and how he feels it should have been done.

TFW2005: (Further along the expanded universe angle) Are there any possibilities to seeing any stories from Transformers past or Transformers future that would have all new characters we have never seen before (no Optimus, no Megatron, no G1 homages, etc)?

Simon Furman: There’s always that potential I suppose, and we are going right back in time for The Thirteen, which features a (largely) new cast of characters we’ll be building from the ground up. Not sure about the future. I don’t really want to do an animated TF movie thing and scrap everything in favour of a new cast. There’s so much potential in the present day cast still to explore in new and different ways. That’s where my creative energies are focused right now.

Simon Furman on Spotlight: Blaster

Written by Big Bot on January 22, 2008 | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News |

Simon Furman has provided his thoughts on this weeks release from IDW Publishing, Transformers Spotlight: Blaster, out on 23rd January.

Of course, there are slight spoilers, but nothing that goes too deeply into the story.

As always with the IDW/TF-verse, though the character is still recognizable as his ‘classic’ G1 equivalent, this is very much a reimagined Blaster, with a somewhat different role in the expanding conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Interview with Chris Ryall at Comic Book Resources

Written by Big Bot on January 18, 2008 | Comics,IDW Publishing,Interviews,News |

In an interview with IDW Publishing Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall, some news about future Transformers comic releases has been revealed including that a new Transformers; Evolutions titles is planned but with all the different continuities currently on offer, it will have to wait for a break.

Are there plans for more “Transformers: Evolutions” titles in the future?

There are talks, anyway. Between the animated movie, the ongoing TF comics we’ve been doing, the reprints of past companies’ stories, the movie continuity, and the upcoming new animated series books, I think that both Hasbro and I are wary of having too many more different continuities out there. But that said, the answer to the question is “yes.”
