Transformers out on DVD in the UK

Paramount Home Entertainment have finally released Transformers on DVD and HD DVD in the UK today in a range of different packages.

On DVD, there are the regular packages as well as some store exclusives. The 1 disc and 2 disc editions can be bought at all good DVD stores. Play.com have the Steelbook exclusive 2 disc set with the Target comic, HMV have the Optimus Prime transforming 2 disc set packaging and Asda have the 1 disc set with the Wal-Mart animated prequel.

There is also the HD DVD set with all the same special features as other regions.

All DVDs are region 2 PAL formatted and are rated 12 by the BBFC. The HD DVD set is region free and again rated 12.

Transformers The Movie Out on UMD (Again)

With the Transformers movie out on DVD today in the UK, Metrodome have decided to re-release the 1986 classic, Transformers The Movie, on UMD for Sony’s PSP. TFTM was originally released on UMD on 1st September 2005 when the PSP was released in Europe.

There are no special features on the disc and uses the same cover art as the Ultimate Edition DVD and Blu-ray disc.

IDW Publishing February 08 Solicitations

IDW’s solicitations for February 2008 have been released and there are plenty of Transformers titles, including The Transformers Spotlight: Arcee, Transformers Spotlight Volume 2 TPB, collecting Soundwave, Kup, Galvatron, Optimus Prime and Ramjet together, The Transformers Devastation #6, the final issue in the series, The Transformers Beast Wars: Sourcebook #4 and Beast Wars: The Ascending TPB.

Updated covers will be revealed closer to the release date.

Transformers Series One DVD Re-release

Metrodome Distribution have announced the re-release of Transformers G1 on DVD with 2 sets. Transformers: Series One Part One and Transformers: Series One Part Two are coming out on 26th December 2007.

The sets are expected to contain 8 episodes each from series one. No bonus material has been announced and with the low RRP of £7.99, there isn’t expected to be any.

2 Disc Commemorative edition of TFTM?

Dan Collins sent is a message he received from Toon Zone stating that there’s going to be a two-disc, expanded DVD edition of Transformers The Movie. It is in development now, timed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Transformers. A late 2004 Region 1 release date has been tentatively scheduled.

We don’t know anything about it or what it will contain, but we’ll endevour to find out.

Metrodome’s Transformers Season 2 part 2 is due out in April, and as with the Season 2 part 1 TheTransformers.Net will be putting its stamp on things with a FanArt gallery. Tonight, for anyone that cannot find anything good to watch on Sunday evening TV, the BBC 2 are showing “I Love Toys”, featuring many favourite toys including the Transformers, at 11.40. If you happen to miss it, you can find a clip on this site. Just type “I love toys” in the search box.

Prices of G1 Transformers

While at Collectormania, in Milton Keynes, yesterday we were shocked at the prices dealers were asking for some Transformers. So shocked in fact that we felt we should put up a warning. We beleive these prices were aimed at newcomers to Transformers, rather than hardcore collectors. People who had TFs first time round, and would be interested in getting back into it. Consequently they were looking to rip people off.

Prices such as £30 for a G1 Rumble, WITHOUT weapons, and £40 for a G1 Rewind, with weapons. These are scandelous prices, 3 or 4 times over their true value.

Well known TF dealers such as the Spacebridge also had astronomical prices on G1 Transformers. We ask that if you’re new to Transformers, don’t take the prices you see at face value – look around to gain an idea of a value of a Transformer before jumping in at the deep end. Search on eBay for the Transformer you’re looking for, that will tell you what they’re selling for – treat it as a price guide for the current market.

We just received this press release from CardboardCutout.net concerning a new line of lifesize standees.

Ultimate Optimus and Megatron merchandise!

TRANSFORMERS are bigger than ever and CardboardCutout.net, under license from Hasbro Properties Group, will add Generation One Optimus Prime and Megatron to their range of life-size stars.

Due to launch before Christmas, these cardboard cutouts will stand at over six feet high and will feature exclusive artwork by Simon Williams, and coloured by Jason Cardy.

Helen Simm from CardboardCutout.net comments on the range;  “When considering the first range to produce as a license-holder, we chose TRANSFORMERS as it has a massively broad appeal fans and collectors, as well as 80s nostalgists � not to mention the new generations discovering the massively popular toy range!”

An official launch of the products is due soon, but CardboardCutout.net were keen to announce they will be unveiling how the cutouts will look at this weekend’s Auto Assembly (4th & 5th June ’05), where you’ll also be able to register your interest.

“The range will be a Limited Edition” says Helen. “If this run goes as well as we anticipate we will be looking to extend the range. Dinobots, anybody?”
