Paramount going Blu very soon

Written by Big Bot on January 9, 2008 | DVD,News,Paramount,Transformers movie (2007) |

Just continuing the rumours of Paramount switching over to Blu-ray is news from long running DVD site The Digital Bits, who have often predicted correctly future news.

Apparently, Paramount is preparing an announcement about switching away from HD DVD with Universal also in discussion. Paramount will release the films that were packaged and ready for retail, and this includes Transformers.

Well… we’ve had SOME confirmation this morning of the details of the Financial Times story from last night. While the studio isn’t yet commenting, reliable industry sources are telling us that Paramount is indeed preparing to end their HD-DVD support and announce a return to the Blu-ray fold. Details are currently being finalized, and an announcement is expected as soon as they’re complete. Paramount’s first new Blu-rays will almost certainly include many of those titles that were cancelled last year, but that were already packaged and ready for shipping, so you could see them in stores very quickly once the studio announces.

Meanwhile, sources are telling us that Universal has also been talking with the BDA, and is looking to follow Paramount and Warner’s lead as soon as possible.

Transformers 2 Production starts 2nd June

Written by Big Bot on | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

In a recent interview by IESB.net with Transformers 2 producer Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, he mentions that Transformers 2 production will start on 2nd June.

IESB: Can you give us a quick update on Transformers 2. Is it still planned for shooting in July of 08?

LDB: The second, June 2nd.

IESB: June 2nd?

LDB: Yep.

IESB: Is the story locked?

LDB: We’re nowhere because of the strike, we won’t know until we come back. We have a very fine outline and we know exactly where we want go with the movie but until this writers strike comes back, we’ll find out exactly where we are. Michael is completely on top of every detail. He’s designed a lot of great stuff already. He’s got a lot of great sequences imagined but you know, he needs some writers to work with before he’s ready to go, so I would say June 2nd is an unofficial start, it’s the target date we’d like to go for but, you know, we’ve got to get some writers to help us.

Simon Furman on Beast Wars The Ascending #4

Written by Big Bot on | Beast Wars,Comics,IDW Publishing,News |

Simon Furman has posted his thoughts on the final issue of Beast Wars: The Ascending. The issue is out tomrrow.

Here is a small sample of what he wrote:

Phew. Suffice it to say, the action starts on page 1 and doesn’t stop until page 22. And inbetween there’s triumph, torment and tragedy aplenty. No one is guaranteed to survive (and many don’t) and no happy endings are assured. In fact, as so often happens, the ending is also a beginning. Those who know their Beast Wars will be pleased the final scenes on page 22 (I hope!).

Rumour: Paramount to go Blu-ray

Written by Big Bot on | DVD,Paramount,Transformers movie (2007) |

With Warner Bros. choosing a side in the format war, it seems that HD DVD could be dead within months. Last year, Paramount signed a deal with the HD DVD group to go exclusive, however, according to the Financial Times, there was a get out clause, which stated that if Warner went to Blu-ray, Paramount could move as well.

This is all good news for Transformers fans, as the film will eventually be released on Blu-ray.

“The Thirteen” Comic Series?

Written by Big Bot on January 2, 2008 | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News |

IDW Publishing Editor-In-Chief Chris Ryall has answered a question from fan Grifter Prime of TFW2005 about what is coming in 2008. Chris provided an answer that gives the title to the series that previously was known as “1” and looks to be going back to the origin of The Transformers:

Q: The dead universe? Or is it the story that goes WAY back in the TF History?

A: Neither one, actually. Although we’re also going to do the TF origins this year, too. That one will be called “The Thirteen.”
