Computron (Marvel Comics)

Written by admin on October 11, 2007 | Characters | Tags: ,

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
SUB-GROUP: TECHNOBOT
FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: HEADMASTERS # 3

“Thorough data analysis is essential for the synthesis of successful strategy.”

Profile: Although much admired for his dedication, bravery, skill and intelligence, Computron is an unfortunate example of being too technologically advanced for his own good. Centuries ago on Cybertron the five Autobots who comprise Computron – Afterburner, Nosecone, Strafe, Lightspeed and Scattershot – agreed to apply the new engineering science of mechanical combinatics to themselves so that they could unite to form a super-Autobot to more effectively combat the Decepticons. Scattershot, however, insisted that their combination be better than anyone else’s, that the contribution of each of the five component Autobots to the whole be maximized in every way. The result was not what anyone expected: Computron was created, but as he was programmed to thoroughly and exhaustively analyze the input of each of the five who comprise him, he takes several minutes to form a consensus opinion and make a decision. Any decision. Of course, without exception, the decision he makes is the right one, but very often it comes too late to make a difference. He genuinely regrets when this happens, and feels even worse that he’s unable to do anything to change it. Nevertheless, he is well known for his sharp mind, and respected for it. He chooses every word with great care and precision and takes great pride in knowing that when Computron talks, everybody listens.

Abilities: Computron possesses awesome strength. He can lift up to 240 tons. He has excellent radar and communications capabilities. He possesses extensive data storage and data processing capacities. He is armed with Scattershot’s automatic acid-pellet gun, which shoots capsules containing a highly corrosive liquid that explodes on impact.

Weaknesses: Slow decision-making is Computron’s most glaring liability. He sometimes overheats and breaks down when he attempts to process more data than he can handle.

Arcee (Marvel Comics)

Written by admin on | Characters | Tags: ,

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE # 1

“Looks are always deceiving.”

Profile: A sweet, kind, and loyal Autobot to her friends, Arcee is also a merciless, lethal warrior to her enemies. Arcee’s intelligence, quick wit, and coolness under fire make her invaluable to the Autobot cause. The Decepticons constantly underrate her because, since to them she so closely resembles the female humans of Earth which the Decepticons have absolutely no respect for, they believe she is beneath their consideration. It is an attitude that Arcee exploits with deadly efficiency.

Arcee is very protective of the human, Danny Witwicky, son of Spike Witwicky, the long-time Earthling friend of the Autobots. In fact, sometimes Arcee is a bit overly protective of him and treats Danny almost like a fragile Ming vase since his skin is not composed of a supremely tough metal alloy like hers.

Arcee is attracted to the Autobot, Hot Rod, who reciprocates the affection. But neither of them is willing to admit it openly. If one were to listen to the verbal pot-shots they take at each other, one would think that they were the bitterest of enemies. But catch one of the Autobots, or worse, a Decepticon, making a disparaging remark about Hot Rod in Arcee’s presence and the offender will more often than not find his hydraulic hoses sliced to ribbons before he knows it.

Weaknesses: Arcee’s concern for Danny sometimes causes her to take excessive
risks in order to protect him.

Soundwave (Marvel Comics)

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | Characters | Tags: ,

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
FUNCTION: COMMUNICATIONS
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 1

“Cries and screams are music to my ears.”

Profile: It is said that Soundwave can hear a fly sneeze. It is also said that beneath his smooth-talking, affable surface beats the generator coil of a blackmailer. Those who know these two facts about him are very careful about what they say within earshot of him. Soundwave is the ultimate opportunist and will use anything he can to advance his status in the eyes of the Decepticon Leader Megatron. He doesn’t worry about what others think of him because he knows he is nearly indispensable. Although they all despise him, the other Decepticons pretend to like him rather than get on his bad side. As Rumble explains, “Soundwave always has the last laugh.”

Abilities: Soundwave’s sensors can detect radio transmissions of the lowest energy levels. He can even “read minds” by monitoring the electrical impulses inside someone’s brain circuitry, if he’s standing nearby. He serves as the Decepticons’ communications relay station – he can keep them all in radio contact with each other within a radius of 100 miles. His photographic memory is due to the immense information storage capacity of the magnetic disks in his chest. He carries a high-amplification directional radiowave sensor and a concussion blaster-gun. He also has great physical strength.

Weaknesses: Soundwave sometimes gets overconfident about his value to the others. At times his hateful personality has resulted in retaliation from them, or worse yet, his abandonment during battle with the Autobots. So far, Soundwave has not only survived these incidents, but has seen to it that his betrayers pay for their actions.
