Transforming novels with Michael Irvine

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on October 12, 2011 | News |

The hungry market for Transformers has prompted the back story in the form of a novel penned by hand-picked author, Michael Irvine. Published last Tuesday, Transformers Exiles, which is a sequel to Tranformers: Exodus, goes back millions of years before the Transformers landed on Earth.

Irvine is a veteran writer who has also written on other super hero characters such as Batman and Iron Man. Hasbro even sought out his talent to give new blood to the multimedia franchise with a solid foundational story. Hasbro are very much aware that continuity is not what it could be in the Transformers timeline and it is an issue they are attempting to resolve for the fans.

Transformers fans who grew up watching their heroes are very knowledgeable when it comes to the back stories so Irvine will have to tread very carefully if he and Hasbro are to succeed. Irvine understands that you have to appreciate and respect the passion the fans have. However, as important as it is not to step on any toes, you also don’t want to tell the same story over and over.

The Transformers task is the latest for Irvine in a string of comic book projects. Many of his peers would consider him to have a dream job. He grew up reading about superheroes in comics and novels or watching them in cartoons so he understands the views of the fans as he is one himself. In fact, comics are what inspired him to write in the first place. Irvine is also scheduled to write the novel adaption of the upcoming Tintin movie.
