After Dreamwave went bankrupt in early 2005, the next few months were spent waiting to see who Hasbro chose to take over the Transformers comic license. On 19th May 2005, IDW Publishing were announced as the new holder.
The Transformers
The first comic released, The Transformers: Infiltration #0, was in October 2005 as a 99 cent prequel to the series. The full series debuted in January 2006. The series was not a continuation of Dreamwave’s material, but a complete restart, headed by Simon Furman.

Instead of starting fresh with Beast Wars, Simon Furman choose to write stories that fit into the 90s animated series, featuring characters from the Japanese Beast Wars series. A set of sourcebooks, in the style of Marvel’s Universe and Dreamwave’s More Than Meets The Eye Profile Books, were released in late 2007/early 2008.

The current 2008 series has 2 accompanies comic books. The Volumes series is a retelling of the cartoon series, and uses the cartoon to produce the art. The Arrival series is a new series that expands upon the series, explaining some of the unanswered questions left over from the cartoon.
