Transformers Nominated for 3 Academy Awards

Written by Big Bot on | News,Transformers movie (2007) |

Transformers, the picture people loved or hated, has been nominated for 3 Academy Awards today. Unfortunately, it isn’t in the running for Best Picture or Best Director (sorry Michael).

The 3 awards are all technical related with the awards being Achievement in sound editing, sound mixing and visual effects. The visual effects award will be a straight fight between Pirates of the Caribbean and Transformers, with The Golden Compass not really up to scratch. The sound awards are a far more unpredictable affair.

Karen Baker Landers and Per Hallberg
“No Country for Old Men” (Miramax and Paramount Vantage)
Skip Lievsay
“Ratatouille” (Walt Disney)

Simon Furman on Spotlight: Blaster

Written by Big Bot on | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News |

Simon Furman has provided his thoughts on this weeks release from IDW Publishing, Transformers Spotlight: Blaster, out on 23rd January.

Of course, there are slight spoilers, but nothing that goes too deeply into the story.

As always with the IDW/TF-verse, though the character is still recognizable as his ‘classic’ G1 equivalent, this is very much a reimagined Blaster, with a somewhat different role in the expanding conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

No Droids in Star Wars Transformers

Written by Big Bot on January 21, 2008 | Hasbro,News,Toys |

Raving Toy Maniac have posted a mainly Star Wars focused Q&A with Hasbro and have revealed some information about future toys in the Star Wars Transformers line. To put it simply, there will be no Transforming Droids!

Any chance of seeing Droid based Star Wars Transformers, like an R2-D2 or C-3PO that convert into something?

Answer: It’s a matter of size, character expression, and natural fit between the modes. First, R2-D2 and C-3PO are already robots (well, droids). Generally, Star Wars Transformers make sense in the film context with their character tying into vehicles with which they are associated and there aren’t any good ties with the droids and vehicles that are compelling (other than perhaps R2-D2 and a Starfighter). In addition, while R2-D2 would be our first choice, a robot mode for him have to change his silhouette significantly and would not really deliver on R2 that we know and love. That’s why the humanoid characters work the best.

More Masterpiece Grimlock Rumours

Written by Big Bot on | News,Takara,Toys |

An image has appeared on Actoys.net that seems to indicate that the next Masterpiece (MP-07) from TakaraTomy will be Simon Furman’s favourite character, Grimlock.

All that is shown in the image is a blacked out picture of Grimlock and the original posted mentioning Masterpiece.
