All Hail Megatron Press Release

Written by Big Bot on March 20, 2008 | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News,Press Release |

Answering the questions about the All Hail Megatron series, IDW Publishing have put out a full press release for the series.

Transformers: All Hail Megatron will be a 12 part maxi-series, set 1 year after Transformers: Devastation, starting with issue #1 in July 08.

IDW Publishing Unleashes the DECEPTICONS on Earth!

Maxi-Series ALL HAIL MEGATRON Depicts a World Without AUTOBOTS

San Diego, CA (March 19, 2008) – It’s often said that the true measure of a hero is based on the quality of the villain—and TRANSFORMERS has some of the greatest villains in pop culture. But the heroic AUTOBOTS have kept the evil DECEPTICONS in check—until now.

Starting in July, IDW Publishing will unveil a turning point in the TRANSFORMERS saga. TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON, under license from HPG, the licensing division of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS). Set one year after the events of TRANSFORMERS: Devastation, TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON launches a new storyline that shows what happens when great heroes aren’t around to defend against their powerful villains. The DECEPTICONS, led by the ruthless MEGATRON, have somehow succeeded in dispatching the AUTOBOTS and their leader, OPTIMUS PRIME, leaving Earth ripe for the plucking.

The 12-part maxi-series takes TRANSFORMERS in an epic new direction courtesy of writer Shane McCarthy (Detective Comics, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight) and fan-favorite artist Guido Guidi (TRANSFORMERS Spotlight: Galvatron, TRANSFORMERS Beast Wars: The Ascending). Together, they tell the tale of an Earth decimated by the DECEPTICONS. Where are the AUTOBOTS, and how did they come to be exiled from Earth? Who has changed sides, who will live, and who will die? These questions, as well as the introduction of an all-new Transformers character, will be answered in the pages of the series.

“This thing is going to knock the fans’ socks off,” McCarthy says. “This is exactly the kind of story I’ve always wanted to see done, and I think the fans will be right there with me.”

IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall added, “ALL HAIL MEGATRON is what the AUTOBOTS fought so hard to prevent, the ultimate culmination of MEGATRON’s plans. It’s destruction on a grand scale; it’s a story of sacrifice, lost heroism, betrayal, and hopefully at the end, renewal.

“But this series, more than any other we’ve done, shows that hopes don’t amount to much in the face of unrelenting evil. Shane’s story hearkens back to the greatest stories in TRANSFORMERS history, while still feeling vibrant and excitingly new. And the best part is the accessibility of the tale makes this a perfect jumping-on spot for new fans of good comics, along with long-time followers of TRANSFORMERS.”

TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON #1 is being solicited for July ’08 release. It will feature a victorious MEGATRON cover by Klaus Scherwinski, as well as a distinctive variant cover by Trevor Hutchison.

Simon Furman on Spotlight: Wheelie

Simon Furman’s Revelations

Written by Big Bot on March 14, 2008 | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News |

More comic news (it seems the only thing happening in the Transformers world) this time from writer Simon Furman, who has added his thoughts to the Transformers Revelation announcement with a post on his blog.

In his blog, he confirms that the four Spotlight issues are indeed Cyclonus, Hardhead, Doubledealer and Sideswipe and together they will bring the Dead Universe storyline to an end. There will also be “fallout” from Transformers Stormbringer and many of the Spotlight issues.

He also clarifies what series are coming out this year. He confirms the The 13 and All Hail Megatron series that we’ve already heard about but also that there is another series which is set within the main continuity.

Expect more details on the series in the next few days when the June solitications are released and Simon continues his script (w)raps.

Interview with Graphic Artist Chris Mowry

Ritcher of IDW’s forums, who is one of the people spear heading the Transformers Mosaic project, has recently interviewed graphic artist Chris Mowry. Chris is currently working on Transformers: The Reign of Starscream, but not as an artist but as a writer.

Most of the interview focuses on the movie sequel comic, and goes into some more detail about the name change of the series, what unanswered questions will be explained, and how the comic fits inbetween the two movies.

Here’s a short extract:

JVR. What can people expect from “RoS?”

CM. We’ll see Starscream as he should have been in the movie. Seriously, I mean, he’s got two lines in the film!? What’s that all about? What we wanted to do was give arguably the toughest character in the film (c’mon, he took on Ratchet AND Ironhide point-blank!) some situations where he could really step it up and when he does, look out. Just think of the ferocity you saw him with at the end of the film, and match that with a contriving mind (he’s smart! he’s smart!). Now throw in a dash of madness, and you’ve got our Starscream.

So what we did for the first issue, was really just go back and reflect on things either glanced over or not explained, and explain them through Starscream’s point of view. How the Autobots got to Earth, how did the Decepticons follow them, how did Starscream fail Megatron the FIRST time? Those kinds of things we’re trying to explain in our way, through his words. Also, we’re referencing the Prequel books (make sure you read the Target exclusive version!) as well. So while some may think that the first issue is nothing but a rehash of what we’ve already seen, it’s not. It’s merely a pathway leading into the story. Oh and it’s not a total retelling, I’ll promise you this for the first book:

– Characters that were not seen in the movie
– Characters that should have been seen in the movie (in our opinion)
– Quite a few easter eggs

Revelations Revealed!

Written by Big Bot on | Comics,Generation One,IDW Publishing,News |

After the end of The Transformers: Devastation this month, fans have been not only wondering when the next series starts but which series it will be. All Hail Megatron and Revelations have been mentioned but not officially announced until now.

Chris Ryall, on his blog, has posted the first details on the next arc, the ‘Transformers Revelations Saga’. However, instead of being a 6 issue story arc like Infiltration, Escalation and Devastation before, the re will instead be four chapter, presented as Spotlights.

This may sound confusing but Chris had this to say on the naming of the series “It’ll be, like, Transformers Spotlight: Cyclonus, with the “Revelations Saga, part 1″ as a subtitle or some such.”.

As you will have gathered from that quote, the first Spotlight will be on Cyclonus, with the second being Hardhead, and both covers have been shown. The other 2 characters we will let you debate over from the sketch.

E.J. Su and Nick Roche will be providing covers for all four issues with Su also doing the artwork for issues 1 and 4. The series is set to start in June.
