UK Comic Takes New Direction

Written by Big Bot on October 14, 2007 | Comics,News,Transformers movie (2007) |

With issue 4 of Titan’s Transformers comic out this week in all good newsagents, Simon Furman has provided some details on the next batch of issues and how they fit in with the live action movie and IDW’s Transformers comics.

Issues 1-4 have focused on individual characters and what they did during IDW’s Prequel story. This will continue with issues 5 and 6. Issues 7-12 will be more Earth based, filling in the gaps in the movie.

Issue 7, entitled “Starscream’s Militia”, picks up after Megatron is defeated and probably links in to the credit sequence. Written by Simon himself with art from Simon Williams, issue 7 is on sale from 3rd January 2008 in the UK.

Sludge

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
SUB-GROUP:
DINOBOT

FUNCTION: JUNGLE WARRIOR, DEMOLITIONS
FIRST APPEARANCE:
TRANSFORMERS # 4

“Stomp your enemy, crush him under your feet.”

Profile: Sludge likes to make his presence known. A few steps of his
incredibly lumbering legs and everyone within a three-mile radius can hear –
and feel – that he’s around. But his awesome physical appearance belies his
unusually gentle and shy nature. Like his fellow Dinobot, Slag, he is not happy
with the leadership of Optimus Prime. He feels, however, the Autobot cause is
more important than any personal misgivings and so he rarely exhibits his feelings.
Such is not the case when Sludge is fired to battle – he then becomes a terrifying,
unstoppable force.

Abilities: In Dinobot mode, Sludge can exert pressure up to 40,000 pounds
per square inch with a single step, enough force to shatter a bridge or even
crack a mountain. Only a handful of his comrades can match his immense strength
and endurance. His armored hide can withstand all but the most powerful blasts.
He’s adept at operating in watery and swampy environments and in jungles.

Weaknesses: Sludge is often victim to the calamities he causes. Often
his fellow Autobots must dig him out of the rubble he’s brought down upon himself.
Perhaps if he were more clever he’d figure out ways to avoid these predicaments.
He’s very slow due to his huge bulk.

Devastator

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: CONSTRUCTICON
FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 10

“Thinking and winning do not mix.”

Profile: Awesome and terrifying, Devastator is the bizarre result of
the six Constructicons – Scrapper, Scavenger, Bonecrusher, Hook, Long Haul and
Mixmaster – joining together to form a single giant robot. He is ungainly and
plodding, but he is also brutality in its purest form – a mechanical being whose
sole purpose is to crush and destroy all that stands in its path. Devastator’s
mind is truly unique and his own, a melding together of his six components,
but it also represents a compromise: his thoughts are limited to what the six
can agree upon. The carrying out of any complex thoughts is severely impeded
by their competing minds. Thus, Devastator is seemingly a creature of almost
pure instinct – usually he acts before he can fully contemplate the consequences
of his actions. These actions are usually simple, direct and extremely violent.

Abilities: Devastator has many of the abilities of his component parts,
but is somewhat limited in their use by his limited mental functions and awkward
form. He is over 60 feet tall and has incredible strength – he can knock down
a bridge with one punch. His solar energy rifle shoots a 10,000 degree centigrade
heat beam a distance of six miles.

Weaknesses: Devastator is slow and awkward, and is relatively easy to
trip up. The inability of his six component parts to better cooperate inhibits
his mental functions, allowing him to be easily outfoxed by most opponents.

Brawl

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: COMBATICON
FUNCTION: GROUND ASSAULT

FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 24

“I was built to be wild!”

Profile: Brawl is loud. Whether he’s talking, shooting, or merely moving,
he makes a lot of noise – grating, clanking, booming noise that irritates all
those nearby, friend and foe alike. As unpleasant as that side of him is, there
are other aspects of his personality that his fellow Combaticons consider even
worse. He has a hair-trigger temper and expresses his frequent anger with a
savage fury truly terrible to behold. But, at least this seething rage that
drives him, that makes him so unpleasant to be with, also makes him a terrifyingly
effective warrior. He makes no secret of his blustering belligerence; the mere
sound of his approach is enough to unnerve Autobots. His actual arrival can
paralyze them with mind-numbing fear. If he weren’t always so angry, Brawl might
find this pleasing.

Abilities: Brawl possesses enormous strength and is resistant to most
conventional artillery. In tank mode, he can reach speeds of 45 mph and has
a range of 600 miles. His turret-mounted gun shoots a shell up to a distance
of 3.5 miles with an explosive force of 200 Ibs. of TNT. His twin sonic cannon
shoots powerful, ear-splitting bursts of concentrated sound energy of up to
300 decibels. He can manipulate this energy in stereo (a result of the cannon’s
dual configuration) to shatter anything from a crystal wine glass to a cinder-block
bunker. In robot mode, he wields a 10-megawatt electron gun. He combines with
his fellow Combaticons to form the giant robot, Bruticus.

Weaknesses: Brawl is virtually incapable of being quiet, making him
an easily identifiable target as he approaches a battle. In tank mode, his turret
is prone to getting locked in one position, particularly in dusty environments.

of 5000 lbs. TNT, 8 mile range. As robot, uses launchers and 4000 degrees Celsius thermal sword. Fragile wings vulnerable to enemy firepower.

Broadside

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
FUNCTION: AIR & SEA ASSAULT
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS: GENERATION 2 # 1

“I like the sea far away and my feet on the ground.”

Profile: Broadside is very uncomfortable about transforming to aircraft
carrier or jet mode, and with good reason. Floating on water upsets his gyro-balance
circuitry, making him feel as if he’s functioning at less than peak performance
– the mechanical equivalent of seasickness. And he’s even more distressed while
flying since he has a natural fear of heights. He strongly detests these Earthen
forms and is quite vocal about it. But, despite everything, he manages to overcome
these problems in battle. He is an effective and valiant warrior, and his fellow
Autobots value him for these qualities. They just wish Broadside would do his
job without griping so much about it.

Abilities: In aircraft carrier mode, Broadside expands his form to a
1200-foot length, giving him the capacity of landing jet aircraft and carrying
other Autobots and vehicles. Having little offensive capability of his own in
this mode, Broadside relies on these “passengers” for protection.
His titanium-steel hull and deck protects him from most artillery fire, but
he’s vulnerable to high-energy beam weapons. An internal fusion reactor powers
him in this mode, allowing him a speed of 40 knots and a range of 15,000 miles.
In jet mode, he can reach speeds of 1800 mph and has a range of 2500 miles.
He can project a powerful electric field around his jet form that will jolt
anything within 1.5 miles of him with 80,000 volts. Of course, for this weapon
to be effective, his target has to be electrically grounded somehow. In robot
mode, he carries a high-energy plasma-pulse gun and a vibro-ax that shatters
whatever it cleaves into by emitting powerful high frequency vibrations.

Weaknesses: Aside from the aforementioned seasickness, fear of heights,
and lack of offensive capabilities while in carrier mode, Broadside also suffers
severe corrosion when exposed to salt water for extended periods. His armored
skin flakes and peels if he’s at sea for longer than two days.

Slag

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
SUB-GROUP: DINOBOT

FUNCTION: FLAMETHROWER
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 4

“I have no need for friends, even less for enemies.”

Profile: Maybe Slag enjoys his job too much – after all, a more sensitive
Autobot might regret the waste involved in reducing an enemy to a smoldering
pool of liquid metal. Not Slag. If his metal hide could take the heat, Slag
would swim in the puddle to celebrate. Perhaps even more than his Dinobot brethren,
Slag resents the authority of Optimus Prime, and he’s not too keen on the other
Autobots either. He’s generally considered a disruptive force and has been known
to get into brawls and turn his fiery breath against his comrades. Nasty and
mean-spirited are perhaps the nicest things one can say about him.

Abilities: In Dinobot mode, Slag can spew from his mouth a bolt of 3,000
degrees Centigrade flame up to 80 feet. He possesses enormous strength and can
shatter a brick building with a single blow from his armored head. In Autobot
mode he carries a high-energy laser rifle.

Weaknesses: Slag is his own worst enemy. His misanthropic personality
often persuades some of the other Autobots not to help him when he’s in trouble.
He’s rash and not too bright, qualities which often put him in dangerous predicaments.

Mixmaster

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: CONSTRUCTICON
FUNCTION: MATERIALS FABRICATION

FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 10

“How strong the steel, how quick the contest.”

Profile: Nothing is safe from Mixmaster’s seething cauldron. He will
use any material necessary, whether unliving rock or living robot, in the making
of some new material. He’s been known to swallow up brand new limousines and
reduce them to steel girders. And he performs his often grisly tasks with an
evil, cackling glee that more befits a medieval witch than a Constructicon.
The manner in which he creates new materials resembles an arcane ritual. Sometimes
his fellow Decepticons wonder if perhaps Mixmaster hasn’t a few microchips loose
in his logic center, but they never question the results of his efforts.

Abilities: While having the appearance of a standard concrete mixer,
Mixmaster can, by using various acids and bonding agents, reduce and recombine
virtually any substances put inside his drum and use them to form new substances.
He is a chemistry lab on wheels. Atop the roof of his cab, he can mount a powerful
infrared cannon which emits bursts of 8000 C heat for an effective range
of .8 miles. In robot mode, he carries a laser pistol and a shoulder-mounted
optical distortion projector, which, by bending light waves, disorients the
vision of anyone caught in its field. When combined with his fellow Constructicons,
he serves as the left leg module in the giant robot known as Devastator.

Weaknesses: Mixmaster’s mixing drum can be rendered inoperative by the
addition of certain chemicals, particularly alkalides.
