Simon Furman Interviewed

Written by Big Bot on January 29, 2008 | Comics,Dreamwave,IDW Publishing,Interviews,Marvel,News,Titan |

TFW2005 have sat down with comic writer Simon Furman and discussed his work on Transformers comics, but also his views on the Transformers movie, and how he feels it should have been done.

TFW2005: (Further along the expanded universe angle) Are there any possibilities to seeing any stories from Transformers past or Transformers future that would have all new characters we have never seen before (no Optimus, no Megatron, no G1 homages, etc)?

Simon Furman: There’s always that potential I suppose, and we are going right back in time for The Thirteen, which features a (largely) new cast of characters we’ll be building from the ground up. Not sure about the future. I don’t really want to do an animated TF movie thing and scrap everything in favour of a new cast. There’s so much potential in the present day cast still to explore in new and different ways. That’s where my creative energies are focused right now.

Simon Furman has recently completed the script for Titan’s Transformers UK #9 comic, and, as usual, he has decided to blog about it.

Issue #9, titled: Twilight’s Last Gleaming Part 1 , is the first in a 5 part series and changes things beyond what you know. If you want to be spoiled, the rest can be read over at Simon’s blog.

Titan Transformers UK #7 Out Today

Today is the release of issue #7 of Titan Magazines Transformers comic series, exclusive to the UK.

This issue marks a change for the comics, with the stories moving from prequel stories to the Transformers movie to sequel stories, set after the end of the film. This issue is focused on Starscream and what happens once he has left Earth.

The comic includes a free holographic TF notebook and pen and a profile of Decepticon Frenzy.

Titan Transformers UK #6 Out Today

Written by Big Bot on December 6, 2007 | Comics,News,Titan,Transformers movie (2007) |

Titan Transformers UK #8 Scorponok

Written by Big Bot on December 5, 2007 | Comics,News,Titan,Transformers movie (2007) |

Simon has been busy recently, but has managed to complete the script for Titan’s Transformers #8, which will be focused on Scorponok. The story for the issue will take place after the events in the movie.

Issue #8 is written by Simon Furman (obviously) with art from Staz Johnson, who work for Marvel UK on some Transformers stuff, with the cover by Gary Erskine. The issue is expected out in late January/early February.

There is also a teaser for issue #9, which Simon describes as “epic”.

Definitely on the better late than never scale, here’s my post-script discourse on Transformers (UK) #8 (or at least the original strip bit of it). Another ’squeezed into a bit of dead space in the movie’ story, this one concerns the fate of Scorponok, last seen burrowing underground in an almightly hurry after the aerial barrage in Qatar.

The full blog post can be read here.
