Hasbro announces new Transformers cartoon

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on April 30, 2009 | Cartoon,Hasbro,News |

Hasbro Inc just announced a collaboration with Discovery Communications Inc that will lead to a new Transformers cartoon in 2010. The two companies are launching a joint venture which includes a new TV channel and accompanying website that will feature programmes based on the many different Hasbro brands, including of course Transformers.

The new network is currently operating under the name Discovery Kids, and will continue to do so until later next year when it will be rebranded. Then it will feature the new programming based on the Hasbro brands, such as G.I. Joe and Transformers. They’re aiming the programming at children aged 14 or below.

Hasbro is using the new venture to increase its reach to new audiences. Hasbro already has two movies out this summer based on its properties, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

Hasbro is set to pay $300 million, which will give it half of the venture.

We’ll let you know more about the new Transformers cartoon when we hear it.

Transformers star Josh Duhamel to drive Bumblebee at Indianapolis 500

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

Josh Duhamel, star of Transformers and Transformers 2, is to drive the pace car at the Indianapolis 500 on May 24th. The pace car, in case you wondering, is Bumblebee – a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Pace Car.

Duhamel reprises his role as Major Lennox in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen this summer, and is delighted to have been chosen to drive Bumblebee (sorry, the pace car) and the race in May.

The Indy 500 is a legendary race, and it’s a great honor to be driving the Camaro Pace Car in it.

That’s one mean looking pace car!

New Transformers 2 photo of Megan Fox released

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

With the Transformers trailer due for ‘official’ release tomorrow, a new photo of Megan Fox from Transformers Revenge of the Fallen has been released to get you in the mood. It does just that doesn’t it?

Megan has also been interviewed here, where she’s mentioned a few secrets from the set of Transformers 2, including how she spends most of the film running from Decepticons… we could have guessed that one though.

When asked about her on-screen romance with Shia LaBeouf, Megan stated:

It’s always weird. That’s not something that’s ever romantic or sexy. Doing an on-set kiss is just strange, and knowing Shia so well makes it even more strange.

Megan was then asked just how good a kisser Shia actually was (cos seemingly girls want to know).

[Laughs.] Very good.

There you have it ladies, Shia’s a good kisser. Megan talked about how she had to run from Decepticons wearing heels, which is no mean feat.

Stilettos — and for the last part of the film, motorcycle boots. I had major shinsplints and threw out my back a couple times. Beyond that, Michael likes everyone freakishly tan, so we were painted maroon, like in the old Westerns when they hired Caucasians to play Native Americans. I had on fake eyelashes, running through the desert with sand stuck in them, and I’m sweating off all the makeup. It looked like we were making a tragedy.

Transformers 2 Trailer

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on April 29, 2009 | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

The full trailer for Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (Transformers 2) isn’t ‘officially’ released until May 1st, but someone has managed to obtain a copy and upload it to YouTube. In the interests of generating as much excitement as possible, have a watch of this before it’s taken down by Paramount.

When we say excitement, you’ll probably need to check your heart rate when you see Megan Fox, dressed in denim shorts, straddling a motorbike, from behind. Michael Bay sir, you are a genius. You know exactly what you’re doing there.

This trailer also features some scenes of Transformers, if you can get past Megan on the bike!

Frank Welker to be in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

There was an outcry when Frank Welker wasn’t cast alongside Peter Cullen in the first Transformers movie, reprising his role as Megatron opposite Cullen’s Optimus Prime. However, it seems that for Transformers 2 Welker might have been given one of his other ‘old characters’ to breathe new life into.

According to reports, the legendary Frank Welker is to provide the voice for the role of Soundwave in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This comes from one of the co-writers on the movie, Roberto Orci.

When speaking in an interview for the new Star Trek movie, Orci stated:

Jordan Hoffman: Who’s voicing Soundwave in Transformers?
Roberto Orci: Welker.

Jordan Hoffman: That’s official?
Roberto Orci: I think so.

Jordan Hoffman: Uh oh.
Roberto Orci: Might be something I just told you for the first time, but I think so.

Soundwave will most definitely be superior with Welker giving him life!

Leonard Nimoy wants to be in Transformers 2

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

Leonard Nimoy, who voiced Galvatron in the original Transformers The Movie, has been rumoured to be on Michael Bay’s wish list to be in the new Transformers movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

However, as Michael Bay and Leonard Nimoy are related, Michael is being a little shy about asking Leonard to appear in his film as a voice actor because he’s embarrassed about how little he can pay him. Bay stated previously that he’s been using his own mother as a go between, passing on messages between himself and the Star Trek legend.

The word coming out of the Nimoy camp however is that Leonard is interested in voicing a character in Transformers 2, but Bay hasn’t asked him. Nimoy urged Bay to call him when he was interviewed during a press interview for Star Trek.

It looks like both Bay and Nimoy want the original voice of Galvatron to be used in the new movie, so surely it must now happen… surely?

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci speak about Transformers 2

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on April 27, 2009 | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

If the comedic scenes in Transformers left you feeling a little flat, you might not gain much hope from the news that Transformers 2, otherwise known as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, will be very similar in tone with regards to the humour.

The co writers of Transformers 2, which is released in June, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci stated:

Actually, I think you’ll find that it has all the same tone of the first movie… The story’s a little smoother, and it’s a little bit darker, so it does dip in there a little bit, but it has all the same humor, if not more than the first movie.

So the film will flow better than the first movie, the story is darker but the humour is about the same?

We’re not sure how we feel about that as the comedy scenes in the first Transformers movie were awkward to say the least. Maybe Michael Bay will do a better job of cutting it together this time, we can but hope.

Transformers video game from Activison’s High Moon Studios

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | Generation One,News,Video Games |

According to reports, High Moon Studios (who were acquired by games publisher Activision last year when they merged with Vivendi) are working on a Transformers video game. This is nothing unusual of course, there’s a multimillion dollar movie out in June. However, the game from High Moon Studios isn’t slated for release until 2010!

Have they made a huge mistake with their scheduling?

No, it’s believed that the game isn’t going to be a movie tie-in at all. Don’t get excited though because we don’t know exactly what the game will entail, but we’re speculating (merely speculating mind you) that the game will be based on the original Generation One franchise.

If this is the case it will finally be the video game that we’ve been waiting for. We can only hope.
