Plans for Transformers 3 Already Underway

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen may have only just been released, but Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks SKG are already planning on Transformers 3 for Friday, 1st July 2011.

Back in March, director Michael Bay mentioned he would only do Transformers 3 if it was release a year later in 2012, which ultimately brings the key question, do Paramount wait at extra year to keep Bay or rush out a sequel?

Associated Content have discussed this point, and it seems we will be waiting 3 years, around the London 2012 Olympics, for more bot action. Despite Bay being back, the extra year should give the writers more time to flesh out a story that is more coherent.

Spielberg and DreamWorks off; Transformers 3 as well?

Written by Big Bot on June 11, 2008 | News | Tags: , , ,

Back in 2005, Paramount Pictures bought DreamWorks SKG for lots of money. Luckily, this didn’t affect Transformers as both companies were already involved in the filming and distribution. Now, however, a split may form. Steven Spielberg is planning, at the end of 2008, on raising $1 billion to buy back DreamWorks and regain ownership of all its movies again. A bidding war between Universal, Disney and Fox will decide who distributes the films.

The problem with all this is what happens to movies that DreamWorks and Paramount both worked on, like Transformers and Transformers 2: Return of the Fallen? Paramount own the distribution rights, but Spielberg’s involvement means he has a lot of leverage. In the end, it will all come down to negotiations and what films Spielberg wants to take with him.

Paramount Buying Dreamworks

Yup, Paramount Pictures is going to buy Dreamworks SKG in a deal worth around $1.5 billion (or a lot of more in simple terms). This will also include Dreamworks Animation and the entire Dreamworks catalogue, including films like Gladiator, Shrek, Chicken Run etc.

Many fans are concerned that the live action movie may be scrapped, but considering that Dreamworks and Paramount are both working on the movie (not many people seem to realise that Paramount are directly involved), there is little reason to canel one of the biggest movies of 2007.
