New Website

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on October 15, 2007 | Site Updates |

We here at TheTransformers.Net are pleased to launch our new website, eh voila’.

It’s been a few months in the making, well actually we wanted to launch last year but commitments, drinking and various other things got in the way. Anyway, we’re done now and here it is.

We’ve imported all of the old articles from the last incarnation of the site (save for the last few we lost when our site was hacked) so everything is here, it’s just under different locations. Use the search tool to the right to find anything, or the categories below it. They’re not all complete but are coming together nicely now that Big Bot is on the case.

This isn’t the end of it though, we’ve many more surprises to come and some designery pokery to add to this skin before it’s complete.

If you spot anything amiss, mention in our Transformers Forum and it shall be looked at.

Above all else, enjoy the site. We’ve been here 7 years now and there’s no sign of us slowing.

Ultimate Edition Bumblebee

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | Toys,Transformers movie (2007) |

I bought this bad boy in July when I was feeling pretty low and the little yellow sucker really helped to cheer me up. I’m not entirely convinced he was worth the £80 but at the time what did I care? I bought him from Argos and received a free transforming Bumblebee poster. Not bad eh?

Transforming the Ultimate Edition Bumblebee was like switching a railroad track, I imagine – I’ve never actually done that. What I mean is he’s big, the parts are big and the movements are big. He’s not your fiddly little minicon.

What I like about this Transformer is his devotion to cheese. He plays music and sounds from the film in car mode, complete with engine noises and break lights (not bad eh) and it robot mode he talks to you, getting quite cranky if you ignore him. I’m not imagining it, he is voice activated, it says so on the box. What I wasn’t prepared for was when I took my eye off him to read my comic he bloody well shot me!

Yeah, he aimed his gun right at me and bang, right in the face.

Don’t leave Bumblebee alone with your pets, it could get messy.

Buy him here.

Transformers is 2nd most searched for toy term this Christmas

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on October 11, 2007 | News,Toys |

According to Hitwise, Transformers are the second most searched for toy online in the run up to this Christmas, just behind the Bratz dolls. It seems that Transformers toys make up a staggering 11.9% of all toy related searches. Star Wars is nowhere to be seen!

Searches for Bratz dolls are double that for second placed Transformers, which have seen a big revival after the release of the Transformers movie this summer.

You can see the full details here.

TheTransformers.Net email to Shut Down!!!

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | Site Updates |

Unfortunately we’ve had to move the server that hosts our domain name to a new server, and this has meant that we can no longer split our email records to allow people to use TheTransformers.Net webmail. We’re sorry for the short notice on this, but the email service will go down within the next 48 hours.

There really was nothing we could do, as it would have cost us £500 ($340) to keep the server running per year. I know a lot of you used this service and we cannot apologise enough for the inconvenience caused.

The registrations will still be active though, so maybe in the near future we’ll be able to sort something out, but for the meantime it’s not happening.

Again, sorry about this, a lot of you will be affected.

88mph Studios – beware!

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News | Tags:

Some of you may be aware of the Canadian based company 88mph Studios, who have released a Transformers Art book entitled ‘Genesis The Art of Transformers‘ using artwork and posters from the Transformers world. They contacted TheTransformers.Net almost 2 years ago now to ask if we could provide them with a copy of the original Transformers The Movie UK theatrical poster. We sent them the Marvel TFTM fold out comic, which had the poster on the reverse, to use in their book on the agreement that they’d take good care of it and send it back.

Despite dozens of emails, and having been told repeatedly that they’d send it, we have received nothing. We emailed again on December 30th, one last time to find out if they intended returning our rare comic, only to be sent this reply

Subject Re GENERAL INQUIRY

Hello Darren,

Expect your package this week or the next depending on the holiday schedule
of FedEx.

Best

Sebastien

I guess this meant that all the previous times that we’d been told it would be sent were lies. And yet again, we have received nothing.

This comic was the very same item that we loaned to Maverick in the UK to use for the TFTM DVD release, which they promptly returned once they had used it. It’s a shame that we have now lost this comic when were only helping out companies who wanted to use the Transformers artwork for Hasbro licensed releases.

As a result of this we won’t be loaning any artwork to companies again, as we just can’t be assured that we’ll get it back. If anyone else is approached by 88mph Studios asking for help, we’d advise you turn them down as they unfortunately can’t be trusted.
