SDCC 09: New IDW Transformers Comic Series

Transformers Nefarious SDCC 09It’s the San Diego Comic-Con 09 this week, so it would only seem logical for IDW Publishing to spill the beans on what is in store for the future of Transformers comics.

Transformers: Nefarious is a mini-series focusing on a new organization with ‘nefarious’ designs on the Transformers. Continuing on from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, there will also be more on Soundwave and Ravage.

The series is written by Simon Furman with art by Carlos Magno and will be out early next year.

In an interview with IGN, Simon talks about the series being self contained, how they aren’t entirely sure on the number of issues, how the series links into Revenge of the Fallen, and the possibility of Primus or Unicron appearing in the movie-verse.

Couple of Simon Furman Blog Updates

Written by Big Bot on July 20, 2009 | Comics,IDW Publishing,News | Tags: ,

Writer Simon Furman has been back on the blogging, with news of his appearances at the San Diego Comic-Con this coming weekend and for his next Transformers comic, All Hail Megatron #13, due out this week.

Here’s Simon’s schedule for SDCC 09, so bringing along your books and other merchandise to get them signed.

Friday 24th: may or may not make it along to the IDW panel at noon. News of my new TF series should already have broken by then, so I’ll be around (though maybe on the sidelines) to answer any (well, within reason) questions.
Sat 25th: 3-4PM at the DC/Wildstorm stand, then 4-5PM at the DK booth (2913-G in the Lucasfilm Pavilion). I may have to run to be there on time!!
Sun 26th: 10-11AM at the IDW stand, where I’ll be available to sign copies of All Hail Megatron #13 (and whatever else), then 2-3PM at the DK booth (Transformers: The Movie Universe, TF Ultimate Guide et al).
That’s it for the moment. Keep an eye out for more updates, right here, over the next week!

The Transformers: All Hail Megatron #13 is the start of 4 issues that contain 2x 11 page stories per issue. Simon’s story contains art from Don Figueroa, and features Optimus Prime and Ironhide.

If you’re going along to Auto Assembly 2009 next month in the UK, look out for the exclusive cover for AHM #13.

Transformers: Defiance Returns to NYTimes Best Seller List

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: Defiance, the second prequel series to this summers movie, has AGAIN made it into the New York Times Best Seller List, entering at no. 6 for 4th July.

Defiance focuses on the origins of Cybertron and the beginnings of the war, being set before both films. I won’t spoil it for people, but it will flesh out the actual Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen film, with some more characterisation and better explanation of certain plot points.

The series is written Chris Mowry with art from Dan Khanna.

The Future of IDW Transformers Comics – Whats Coming?

Written by Big Bot on | Comics,IDW Publishing,News | Tags: , ,

IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall recently appeared on the radio, and answered some questions about IDW Publishing’s future plans for the Transformers brand. He has also answered some questions in this thread on the IDW forum.

In November, IDW will release Transformers Continuum, which will bring all readers up to speed on IDW’s Transformers comics released so far, which is an idea many fans have recommended for a long time. It isn’t know if this is one issue or a series.

Also be on the look out for the San Diego Comic-Con in 2 weeks, which will have 3 Transformers announcements, 2 of which will come as a big surprise and one that fans feel they already know about. I’ll let you speculate on what these may be.

There will also be some “movie news”, which probably consists of the next movie comic, Tales of the Fallen.

Preregister for Auto Assembly 2009 to get Third Voice Actor

Written by Big Bot on July 8, 2009 | Comics,News | Tags: ,

The guys at Auto Assembly 2009 are putting in a lot of effort to make Auto Assembly 2009 the best ever, and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Transformers in style. Here is a video promoting the need for more preregistrations to get Neil Kaplan, the voice of RID Optimus Prime and AA 2005 guest of honour, and a message from Simon Plumbe.

Win A Personalised Voice Recording From Optimus Prime With Auto Assembly!

If you don’t already know, Auto Assembly is in talks to bring Neil Kaplan, the voice of Optimus Prime in Robots In Disguise back to the UK for it’s convention this year taking place over the weekend of 15th – 16th August 2009. Neil recently made his return to Transformers to voice characters in Activision’s game based on Revenge Of The Fallen, and we are hoping that he will be able to make his welcome return to Auto Assembly as well, following his appearance in 2005 as our guest of honour…

Neil’s appearance at Auto Assembly is confirmed subject to the convention receiving sufficient pre-registrations or sales of the non-attendee package to cover Neil’s costs. While this figure has not yet been reached, we are confident that – with the support of Transformers fans everywhere – Auto Assembly 2009 can become the first European Transformers convention to play host to THREE voice actors, seeing Neil join Gregg Berger and Ian James Corlett.

As part of Neil’s provisional appearance, he will be performing on stage in our script session on the Saturday evening alongside Gregg and Ian in a script written by Transformers legend Simon Furman, as well as taking part in a Q&A Panel at some point during the weekend and being on hand to sign autographs all weekend. For those of you unable to attend and who take up the non-attendee package, Neil’s autograph will be in your package should he attend.

To tie-in with his return to Auto Assembly, Neil has graciously offered to provide a personalised voice recording for one lucky convention attendee should he attend this year. This can be anything at all that you want, and you can use it as a mobile phone ring tone, on your website etc. – as long as it is for non-commercial use. To stand a chance of winning this fantastic prize, all you need to do is pre-register for the convention as a WEEKEND attendee or purchase a non-attendee package and you will be entered into the draw which will take place on the weekend.

To purchase your tickets or non-attendee package and have a chance of winning, visit the Auto Asembly website NOW! If you have already registered then you will be automatically entered into the draw! If you have only booked a single day ticket and would like to upgrade to a full weekend pass, watch this space for details soon on how you can do this… Don’t miss out on your chance to be a part of what is going to be a great weekend celebrating 25 years of the Transformers!!

The Complete Ark is a combination of both The Ark and The Art II, but with the added bonus of extra artwork, like the Godmasters section should now feel more complete, and there are extra pages, featuring the Decepticon’s underwater headquarters.

After years on working on Transformers books in the UK and USA, Simon Furman has now turned his attention to Japan. He has contributed a 2 page comic strip to Million Publishing’s latest book, Transformers Generations 2009 Volume 3, which is out in Japan later this year, ISBN 978-4-8130-2105-6.
