Bonecrusher

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON

SUB-GROUP: CONSTRUCTICON
FUNCTION: DEMOLITIONS
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 10

“Hit it till it stands no taller than the dust.”

Profile: A rubble-strewn wasteland is Bonecrusher’s idea of a beautiful
landscape. Rare is the edifice that he feels is better off left standing. For
him, demolition is not merely a job – it is a performance. He loves to show
off for his comrades. And Megatron realizes that the fear and terror sowed by
this Constructicon’s wild ways are bonus by-products that can only help the
Decepticon conquest of Earth’s resources. Bonecrusher’s attitude about the world
around him can best be summed up by his personal credo: “Everything is
dust – or it will be when I get through with it!”

Abilities: In vehicular mode, Bonecrusher can exert a force of 800,000 pounds
per square inch at a speed of 30 mph, enough to knock down all but the most
heavily reinforced structures. His thick titanium-steel hide makes him virtually
invulnerable to anything that might collapse upon him as a result of one of
his charges. He can use a short-range concussion bomb launcher to aid his demolitions.
In robot mode he carries a laser pistol. He serves as the left arm module which,
when combined with his fellow Constructicons, forms the giant robot known as
Devastator.

Weaknesses: Bonecrusher’s eagerness to wreak destruction often results
in the loss of structures that had potential value for the Decepticons. Although
he is rarely harmed by the collapse of a building on him, he is sometimes buried
and finds it difficult to free himself at those times.

Scourge

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
FUNCTION: SWEEP LEADER

FIRST APPEARANCE: THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE # 1

“Desolation follows in my trail.”

Profile: Scourge is the most fearsome and implacable hunter-destroyer
created by Unicron from the wreckage of dead Decepticons. Scourge is leader
of “The Sweeps,” a specially created wolf pack of tracker-terminators
designed by Unicron to hunt down and eradicate Autobots and their human allies.

Abilities: Scourge is possessed of scanning and locating equipment,
which can detect machine or human presence even if it is as small as an amoeba
in the ocean or a wind-up toy in the Sahara desert. And he is merciless and
capable of using such weapons as acid rays, which dissolve his targets, laser
blasters, disintegrator beams, and assorted demolition and fusion devices in
eliminating his prey. He can transform to a scouring vehicle, a marauding automotive
mode which handles any terrain and scans for “survivors.”

Weaknesses: Scourge’s only weakness is his arrogance.

Scrapper

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: CONSTRUCTICON

FUNCTION: CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 10

“My work is a monument to – and of – my enemies.”

Profile: Scrapper is a wizard at designing fortresses and energy production
plants for the Decepticons. Disguising his creations to blend unnoticed into
the surrounding alien human landscapes comes almost as easily to him. He modestly
shrugs off the acclaim these talents inspire from his comrades. After all, he
feels he is just fulfilling the requirements of his job. But overcoming an enemy
Autobot and secreting his body in the foundation or structural skeleton of one
of his buildings is another story. It is in such cases that Scrapper exhibits
his true malevolent genius and relishes the admiration and praise it garners.
Megatron considers him the most valuable of the Constructicons.

Abilities: In vehicular mode, Scrapper’s shovel can slice through 12-inch
thick carbon-steel plate and lift up to 30 tons. By adding on his single-jet
levitation wing he can fly at 60 mph for 250 miles. In robot mode he has immense
strength and carries a laser pistol. When combined with his fellow Constructicons,
he serves as the right leg module and part of the torso module in the giant
robot known as Devastator.

Weaknesses: While flying, Scrapper is a very vulnerable target due to
his lack of speed and maneuverability. His shovel is prone to metal stress fractures
if overused.

Chromedome

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: AUTOBOT
SUB-GROUP: HEADMASTER
HUMAN COMPONENT: STYLOR

FUNCTION: COMPUTER PROGRAMMER
FIRST APPEARANCE: HEADMASTERS # 1 (Chromedome), HEADMASTERS # 2 (Stylor)

“A battle plan is only as good as its programmer.”

Profile: Chromedome spent several thousand years crunching numbers at
Cybertron’s Institute for Higher Programming before a Decepticon attack reduced
it to a smoking pile of microchips. Forcibly dragged into the war in this way,
Chromedome turned his skills to limiting the potential for violence by reprogramming
many of his Autobot colleagues to be able to outsmart their foes. But this only
began an ever escalating strategic brain race during which each side furiously
competed to apply the latest in software to military purposes. Disillusioned
and frustrated, Chromedome eagerly joined Fortress Maximus’s expedition in search
of a peaceful world upon which to live. Although, much to his chagrin, the war
soon followed him to Nebulos, Chromedome still devotes much of his time to academic
pursuits – after all, he now has a whole new world to learn about. But he is
also now resigned to the idea that the war with the Decepticons can not be avoided,
only won. He’s as scholarly and reserved as he ever was, but now he’s also a
stalwart warrior.

Stylor, Chromedome’s binary-bonded Nebulan partner, is more concerned with
appearance than warfare. He spends more time primping himself and polishing
Chromedome than he does preparing for battle. In Nebulan society circles, he
is renowned for his exquisite taste in clothes and dashing good looks. He is
not much of a ladies’ man, however – few Nebulan women are interested in a guy
who tries to look prettier than they do. He’s charming, cheery and egotistical.
Many suspect the reason Stylor volunteered to become a Headmaster was because
it was the fashionable thing to do at the time.

Abilities: In car mode, Chromedome’s twin fuel-injected, turbo-charged,
side-mounted engines give him a maximum speed of 478 mph on a flat road. His
range is 630 miles. His hood-mounted infrared rangefinder automatically targets
his roof-mounted dual lasers, which he also uses in robot mode.

Weaknesses: Chromedome does not travel well on rough surfaces in car
mode. Stylor’s preoccupations with himself often impede Chromedome’s effectiveness,
particularly during combat.

IDW Comic News

At AA2005, Simon Furman gave some updates as to the direction that the new comics would take. To sum up what he said, Simon has posted some points on TFW2005 to clear up the confusion that had been occurring on other sites

Hi everyone– some quick responses and clarifications to the AA-feedback.1) First of all, when I mentioned ‘younger age bracket,’ what I meant was we’re aiming to appeal to an age group under 30! While we definitely want the long-time fans to read and enjoy the book, we also want to make it accessible and resonant with teenagers too.

2) There’ll be a range of ages for the human characters, but the youngest will be maybe fifteen/sixteen. We’re not going ‘junior’ here.

3) Character (alt-mode) updates will be by necessity only. If we can get away with using a ‘classic’ car in the 2005/2006 setting, we will. I have no burning urge to reinvent the wheel here, I just want to make stuff fresh and believable in a modern setting. These guys want to blend in, so they’re hardly going to pick a make of car or whatever from 1984.

4) BUT, and I stress this, we are taking pains to update, not reimagine. All of us (me, EJ, Hasbro, Chris and Dan at IDW) are looking for the most natural fits, those that won’t require major tweaks to the robot modes. We want you to look at any given vehicle on a page and know right off it’s Wheelie (just kidding!).

5) Megatron. Honestly, I always thought the gun was a bad idea. You’ve got the most powerful, feared being in the known galaxy and he turns into a handgun (and mostly he needs someone else to hold and point him!). Gimme a break. No, when Megatron transforms, it should be epic, grandiose. Hardened battle veterans should feel their exhaust ports loosen.

6) And finally, trust me that I won’t take everything you know and love throw it out the window. I won’t. Why? Because I know and love it too. It just don’t want to tell exactly the same story. Again.

Cheers– Simon Furman (honest!)

Dead End

Written by admin on | Characters,Comics,Marvel |

ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP: STUNTICON
FUNCTION: WARRIOR
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS # 22

“We are all just food for rust.”

Profile: Sullen and fatalistic, Dead End sees little reason to continue the Autobot-Decepticon War since all Transformers eventually become inoperative anyway, even though it might take tens of thousands of years. Yet he spends more time keeping himself unmarred and shiny than any of his fellow Stunticons, an irony not lost upon Motormaster, who speculates that Dead End wants to at least make sure he leaves a pretty wreck when he dies. This vanity leads to a lot of teasing and derision directed toward Dead End, which just makes him feel worse. The only thing that can lift his spirits is blasting Autobots in battle, despite what he says about the pointlessness of it all. It seems he’s too busy trying to save his own life to get depressed about the possibility of losing it.

Abilities: In car mode, Dead End can reach speeds of up to 220 mph. He emanates a radar signal that allows him to detect the movements of any vehicle or robot within a 200-mile radius, and he can use it to mentally map the surrounding terrain as well. He’s adept at using this ability to lead enemy Autobots into
traps – such as dead ends! In robot mode, he carries a compressor-air gun, which can let out a blast of air that packs a 40,000 psi punch, enough to splinter a grove of oak trees. He combines with his fellow Stunticons to form the giant robot, Menasor.

Weaknesses: Dead End is a fearless fighter in battle, but getting him motivated to begin fighting is always a problem. Sometimes he can be so listless and depressed that it takes a direct hit with a cluster bomb to spur him to fight. When that happens, he’s usually no longer in any condition for battle.

Beast Wars Sourcebook #1 Feedback

Written by Big Bot on October 9, 2007 | Beast Wars,Beast Wars II,Beast Wars Neo,Comics,IDW Publishing,News |

Chris Ryall has posted some feedback to the complaints from fans on Beast Wars Sourcebook #1, which was released last week.

“Hey, everyone– In the time we’ve been doing Transformers comics, there have been highs and lows for the fans, I know. As there’s going to be on anything — some projects work better than others, for various reasons.

This one seems to be ranking somewhere near the first issue of the TF Animated Series for most of you, from the responses I’ve seen.

Which sucks all around–the last thing we want to do is release product that doesn’t work for you. Especially since this particular book took so long to finally arrive. And because so many artists and colorists labored over it. And because Simon and Ben Yee did the same, and then waited patiently for the book to finally be assembled and released.

So for the person who just e-mailed me very angry and said “once again, IDW screws its fans,” well, that’s hardly true and hardly a sound approach to business, I would think. And nothing we would ever set out to do.

So what happened?

That’s a good question. But there’s really no need for me to make excuses or air any beasty-smelling laundry, so I’ll just say that the book is, like everything we publish, ultimately my responsibility. This book was one that sort of slipped through the crack while I was dealing with an editorial shift, and it went out with some errors. Book Two was completed during this same period. But Andrew is here as the TF Editor now, and is extremely competent and he and I will do what we can to ensure the rest of the books are produced as they should be. As many errors are able to be corrected in the collected version will be fixed, too.

I know that this book was a bit of a disappointment for fans who waited so long. Transition with art teams or editorial teams can cause hiccups that are evidenced in the finished product, but certainly not on purpose.

So know that I share your pain on this–maybe moreso, since so many people have shared their pain with me–but also know that putting out something you don’t love is never our intent. We’ll get ’em next time.”

Fortress Maximus Coming to IDWverse

Written by Big Bot on October 7, 2007 | Comics,IDW Publishing,News |

Simon Furman has revealed the first appearance of city-former Fortress Maximus will be in an upcoming Transformers Spotlight, which has yet to be announced.

“I managed not to reveal the subject of the second (or three) Spotlights I’m currently writing for IDW, but did let slip that (within the covers of that same un-named Spotlight) a certain Fortress Maximus makes his full IDW debut (albeit in a supporting role).”
