Written by Big Bot on October 23, 2007 | DVD,News,Paramount,Press Release,Transformers movie (2007) |

Paramount Home Entertainment have just released a press release stating that Transformers has sold 8.3 million copies on DVD in its first week and about 190,000 on HD DVD. We here find this comment a bit ironic from Paramount given the DVD and HD DVD is only out in North America.

“The performance of the TRANSFORMERS DVD and HD DVD has demonstrated the phenomenal success of this global franchise,” said Kelley Avery, president, Worldwide Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures”

Just to remind people, North America isn’t the world. Anyway, away from world politics, here is the full press release:

Transformers Animated Promotion DVD

Written by Big Bot on October 18, 2007 | Animated,DVD,News,Toys |

Another listing on the BBFC website shows that Hasbro UK are releasing the first episode of Transformers Animated on DVD. Since Hasbro UK is a toy company who don’t specialise in DVD distribution, it most likely means this DVD will be included with a Transformers Animated toy, and the best guess is “TF Animated Battle Pack with DVD”, which we mentioned earlier this month.

The episode included is called, “Transform and Roll Out” and will be the first episode of Transformers Animated. The FBI warning indicates that the disc will also be released in North America.

Transformers Beginnings Coming To UK?

Written by Big Bot on | DVD,News,Transformers movie (2007) |

With the release of Transformers in North Amercia yesterday, many stores provided exclusives, and the most interesting was Wal-Marts, which contained a bonus disc with an animated version of IDW’s prequel story, entitled Beginnings. Peter Cullen and other voice actors provided voices to bring the prequel to life.

Thats to the BBFC, it looks like the UK will be getting this extra as well. No store has been linked with this exclusive, but with HMV and Play.com already having bonuses, it is likely to be either Virgin Megastores or Asda, who are owned by Wal-Mart.

The popularity of Transformers is bigger than ever with the release of the $700 million grossing movie last summer, and with it comes other companies releasing products to catch on to the hype.

All 39 episodes will be on 2 boxsets, entitled Season One (episodes 1-20) and Season Two (episodes 21-39). New artwork has been commissioned, with Optimus Prime and Megatron on the covers. Both DVDs are region 2 PAL encoded and rated PG.

Transformers DVD Details for Japan

Written by Big Bot on October 14, 2007 | DVD,News,Paramount,Transformers movie (2007) |

The last major territory to receive Transformers in the cinema was Japan. The Transformers toy creators and Movie advisors (Takara) will have to also wait the longest for the DVD, but it looks like the wait will be rewarding.

Paramount Japan have announced a range of packages for Japan, all being released on 19th December. The first is the standard 2 disc special edition being released all over the world, the second is the transformable packaging, also with the 2 discs and third is the HD DVD version. There is also a listing for a “special” edition, but not details have been revealed. Expect some super boxset at a very high price.

Full details can be found on Paramount Japan’s Official Transformers Site.

Target DVD Comic Available Online

SAeason 2, Part 1 out today!

Written by admin on October 11, 2007 | DVD,Generation One,Metrodome,News |

Hey kids! It’s Monday! It’s the 17th of November! And Metrodome’s Transformers Season 2, Part 1 DVD boxset hits the shelves today!

While Starscream will have a more formal review up for everyone to read some time in the future, the curious among you can read over my technical critiques and information on the message boards, HERE.

Metrodome Update

Raymond T. of Seibertron has been in contact with Metrodome over future Transformers DVD releases in the UK. Here’s the email he received from them

“I’ve no news of the 20th Anniversary of the movie I’m afraid but we are planning a summer release of Takara – Headmasters.

We’ve managed to track down all the original 1991 Japanese Takara masters for Headmasters. These are better quality than the ones we have in the US and they are complete. Tracking them down has been a bit of a job.

My plan at the moment, is to release a 4 disc DVD using these original Japanese masters with the original Japanese audio and we’ll create accurate English subtitles. The original dubbing by Star was pretty dreadful, so my thoughts are to keep it intact, as it was originally broadcast in Japan.

However, I am also looking into the possibility of copying the English audio dub from the US masters and placing it as an optional audio track on the DVD. This is only possible if they are exactly the same so we’ll have to do technical comparisons and configurations etc. and this may end up being too expensive and the US master list is not complete so we won’t be able to do this to all at the moment but I am looking into it.

As for re-dubbing. I’ve dismissed that for the moment as I think it will be far too expensive.”

Chris McFeely, who has worked on the Seasons 3/4, Season 1 and RID Boxsets, has provided some more info

Yeah, I can confirm that what Seibertron have posted is accurate – this is the news I was waiting for permission to release, but Ken hasn’t replied to me in two weeks, and since Seibertron have it up now, what the hey.

The news, of course, was that Metrodome have acquired the original Japanese masters for “Headmasters.” In the recent company restructuring, I’m sad to say that Jane Lawson, a lovely woman who was the product manager for Transformers and our link to what the company was up to, was made redundant. Ken Law is currently handling the product while searching for a new manager. Anyway, where Jane’s approach to Headmasters was “We have the dub, and we’ll see if we can get the Japanese,” after this development, Ken’s approach is “We’ve got the original Japanese, now we’ll see if we can put the dub on it.” The original version is now paramount. Personally, I’ve reccommended that the dub be included, just for the sake of giving viewers a choice. That bit about the US master list not being complete is news to me, however.

Regarding the movie, though, last I heard an Autumn release is planned. Which reminds me, I need to bring up the business of a fan commentary to Ken again!

Unfortunately, and for whatever reason, they only have 17 English masters, as opposed to the 35 Japanese ones they have.

Also, last year, it was reported that TVNihon and Wolfpack Productions would be doing the subtitles, but that’s off the cards now.
