Even though an incredible amount of information has already been announced about Auto Assembly 2010, Europe’s largest Transformers convention, we are not resting on our laurels and we are back with another announcement to keep all our attendees up-to-date on all the latest developments with the convention and to hopefully persuade some of you who are still undecided about what con to attend this Summer…

Episode 5 of our series of news videos is now LIVE on Youtube and you can check it out here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhMXE-KpipI

In this week’s show, we have details of the latest news on dealers tables at the convention, ticket sales, our new Costume Competition, and much more besides! If you want to know the full details, you’ll just have to watch the video and find out for yourselves!

Spanning the weekend of Friday 13th – Sunday 15th August 2010 at the The Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham, England, the convention is playing host to a staggering 11 guests including three guests of honour (Garry Chalk, Scott McNeill and Derrick J Wyatt), and will feature toy and art displays, dealers, comic guests, free autograph sessions, a video games area, free workshops run by many of our guests, dedicated childrens programming, video screenings and so much more to be announced! There will also be Friday and Saturday evening programmes, exclusive for weekend attendees and the Saturday evening will play host to a party, a concert by rock band Next Of Kin (including a Transformers themed set with music from the 1986 animated movie!), costume competition, our voice actors will take to the stage to perform a BRAND NEW script written by Simon Furman and we still have a few more surprises in store…!

Because of the venue size, we are restricting attendance to a MAXIMUM of 550 people at the convention per day which can be made up of a combination of weekend and one-day attendees and once we hit that total we will be closing registrations so if you want to attend Europe’s largest Transformers convention, you need to hurry and get your tickets now as we have already had over 325 pre-registrants so tickets are likely to be a complete sell-out!

Despite our running costs increasing for this year, we have frozen ticket prices from Auto Assembly 2009 and they are £45 for adults and £35 for children, students and senior citizens, with under 5s admitted free. Family tickets (2 adults and 2 children) are available for £145. Single day passes are available at reduced rates but these are VERY limited.

For more details on the convention, to see a full list of all the guests and activities taking place over the weekend, or to book your tickets, visit the website at www.autoassembly.org.uk

We hope to see you all in August 2010.

Transformers Rachael Taylor engaged?

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on April 7, 2010 | Transformers movie (2007) |

With the publicity that Mega Fox (as she’s sometimes known) generated around the Transformers movies, it’s sometimes easy to forget that she wasn’t the only drop dead gorgeous woman in the film. Rachael Taylor also simmered in the first movie, starring as a high tech computer hacker – cos they all look like that in the movies.

Well, it’s bad news guys. It looks as if the lady is engaged, to Matthew Newton from Underbelly.

According to the Daily Telegraph, a friend of Newton’s has commented:

“[Newton proposed] quite a while ago now, almost two months maybe, but they are really happy. She said ‘Yes’ straight away. They just understand each other. They are a really unique couple.”

Neither the agent for Rachael Taylor or Matthew Newton confirmed the news however, so there’s still a chance.

Optimus Prime enters the political arena

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on March 25, 2010 | News |

Let’s face it, we’d all like to see Optimus Prime run for president of the United States. He’s noble, caring, full of charisma and he’d personally wage the war on terror – however as Optimus is fictional his entry into any presidential race is unlikely.

Or so you’d think…

Optimus Prime is actually involved in a presidential election campaign this very instant, in the Philippines. Optimus is part of the presidential campaign for Richard Gordon, and his running-mate Bayani Fernando.

The pair are big Transformers fans, and they have used the Transformers all the way through their campaign – culminating in the creation of two Optimus Prime trucks which have been used to tour the Philippines drumming up support. One of the Primes follows the pair around the country, while the second Prime has been touring independently to raise support for their campaign.

Transformers have played a big part in the election process so far, with Richard Gordon and Bayani Fernando referring to themselves as ‘the Transformers’. In a recent interview the pair stated:

We are transformational leaders. We represent change.

Gordon elaborated:

I transformed Olongapo from a sin city to a model area, with an employment of 200,000.

If you want to follow Richard Gordon and Bayani Fernando in the election, and to see what happens with their campaign and the two Optimus Primes, you can do so on their website.

We wish him the best of luck!

Transformers 3D or not 3D?

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on March 24, 2010 | News,Transformers 3 (2011) |

We reported recently that Transformers guru Michael Bay was looking at some test footage to see how Transformers 3 would like if it were Transformers 3D. It appears now though that the tests aren’t going well, as Bay has revealed he is unimpressed with the test footage.

This means that Transformers 3 may not be in 3D after all.

The news comes from an interview posted on the Deadline Hollywood website where speaks very frankly about the test footage that is being worked on right now.

I shoot complicated stuff, I put real elements into action scenes and honestly, I am not sold right now on the conversion process.

I am trying to be sold, and some companies are still working on the shots I gave them. Right now, it looks like fake 3D, with layers that are very apparent. You go to the screening room, you are hoping to be thrilled, and you’re thinking, huh, this kind of sucks. People can say whatever they want about my movies, but they are technically precise, and if this isn’t going to be excellent, I don’t want to do it. And it is my choice.

Michael Bay even shows signs of creative integrity too as he talks about how he’s not willing to make the film 3D if it’s not going to work properly, just for the sake of making more money on the cost of a cinema ticket.

This conversion process is always going to be inferior to shooting in real 3D. Studios might be willing to sacrifice the look and use the gimmick to make $3 more a ticket, but I’m not. Avatar took four years. You can’t just shit out a 3D movie. I’m saying, the jury is still out.

Ferrari 458 Italia in Transformers 3

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on March 23, 2010 | News,Transformers 3 (2011) |

Fans of the original G1 Transformers, and of cars in general, will have noticed that the live action Transformers movies of Michael Bay have been a little too heavy with American cars. In Revenge of the Fallen for example, Sideswipe (who should have been a Lamborghini) instead took the form of a Corvette Stingray for his chase with the Audi R8 (and quite frankly, a Corvette would have never made those corners against the Audi).

In the first Transformers film, Jazz (originally a Porsche 935 in Transformers G1) was instead turned into a Pontiac Solstice. It’s a tragedy where inferior American cars replace the quality European cars that made the Autobots famous.

Now, at long last, there’s going to be a serious European car in Transformers 3 – the Ferrari 458 Italia. The Ferrari 458 Italia is a 4.5ltr V8 and is the replacement for the F430.

This comes from the man himself, Michael Bay.

Bay wrote on his blog:

I also was at a Ferrari charity event this week raising money for a hospital being built by Ferrari in Haiti. I announced that night the newest Autobot to join Transformers: the Ferrari 458 Italia.

John Malkovich in Transformers 3

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News,Transformers 3 (2011) |

The cast of Transformers 3 just got that little bit more serious with the announcement that actor John Malkovich has now signed on for the third instalment in the Transformers franchise.

Michael Bay announced the news on his blog recently, commenting:

Transformers 3 has been going very well. We are going to shoot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China. On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich.

Both amazing actors I’ve always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong, he is the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from ‘Hangover’ and the Doctor from ‘Knocked Up.’

We start shooting pre-shoots in about one month.

This is great news for Transformers 3 as Malcovich has a certain intensity that very few actors possess.
