DVD Reviews website WhatDVD.Net has reviewed the new Transformers DVD from Paramount released in the USA this week. Reviewer JD Lafrance talks in great details about the special features contained in this long awaited DVD Release. Read his review here.
Obviously us in the UK have to wait some time yet for our release.
With the release of Transformers in North Amercia yesterday, many stores provided exclusives, and the most interesting was Wal-Marts, which contained a bonus disc with an animated version of IDW’s prequel story, entitled Beginnings. Peter Cullen and other voice actors provided voices to bring the prequel to life.
Thats to the BBFC, it looks like the UK will be getting this extra as well. No store has been linked with this exclusive, but with HMV and Play.com already having bonuses, it is likely to be either Virgin Megastores or Asda, who are owned by Wal-Mart.

I bought this bad boy in July when I was feeling pretty low and the little yellow sucker really helped to cheer me up. I’m not entirely convinced he was worth the £80 but at the time what did I care? I bought him from Argos and received a free transforming Bumblebee poster. Not bad eh?
Transforming the Ultimate Edition Bumblebee was like switching a railroad track, I imagine – I’ve never actually done that. What I mean is he’s big, the parts are big and the movements are big. He’s not your fiddly little minicon.
What I like about this Transformer is his devotion to cheese. He plays music and sounds from the film in car mode, complete with engine noises and break lights (not bad eh) and it robot mode he talks to you, getting quite cranky if you ignore him. I’m not imagining it, he is voice activated, it says so on the box. What I wasn’t prepared for was when I took my eye off him to read my comic he bloody well shot me!
Yeah, he aimed his gun right at me and bang, right in the face.
Don’t leave Bumblebee alone with your pets, it could get messy.
The last major territory to receive Transformers in the cinema was Japan. The Transformers toy creators and Movie advisors (Takara) will have to also wait the longest for the DVD, but it looks like the wait will be rewarding.
Paramount Japan have announced a range of packages for Japan, all being released on 19th December. The first is the standard 2 disc special edition being released all over the world, the second is the transformable packaging, also with the 2 discs and third is the HD DVD version. There is also a listing for a “special” edition, but not details have been revealed. Expect some super boxset at a very high price.
Full details can be found on Paramount Japan’s Official Transformers Site.
This Tuesday marks the release of Transformers on DVD in North America, and part of their promotions, Paramount have many exclusives available. The comic will also be available with the Play.com exclusive steelbook package in the UK.
With issue 4 of Titan’s Transformers comic out this week in all good newsagents, Simon Furman has provided some details on the next batch of issues and how they fit in with the live action movie and IDW’s Transformers comics.
Issues 1-4 have focused on individual characters and what they did during IDW’s Prequel story. This will continue with issues 5 and 6. Issues 7-12 will be more Earth based, filling in the gaps in the movie.
Issue 7, entitled “Starscream’s Militia”, picks up after Megatron is defeated and probably links in to the credit sequence. Written by Simon himself with art from Simon Williams, issue 7 is on sale from 3rd January 2008 in the UK.
Just how long as Don Murphy been waiting to do Transformers? We’ve been sent a link to IMDB showing a screenshot from one of Don’s early films, Double Dragon, and in the background you can clearly see a cameo from the noblist Autobot of them all. Check it out here
Thanks to Bres for the heads up.
