Toshiba to drop HD DVD

Written by Big Bot on February 18, 2008 | News,Transformers movie (2007) |

News filtering out of Japan says that Toshiba will be pulling out of the HD DVD format, which will pave the way for Paramount and Universal to switch over to Blu-ray. This will bring about the quick release of Transformers on Blu-ray, as the discs had already been made back in September 2007 but were stored away after Paramount decided to join the HD DVD group. this has all been mentioned by the Hollywood Reporter.

Also, in Circuit City computers, an enpoyee has spotted a listing for a 2disc Blu-ray edition of Transformers. All rumours still but this format war may be coming to an end.

Bay Happy with Blu-ray Success

Written by Big Bot on February 13, 2008 | News,Transformers movie (2007) |

With Blu-ray looking more and more likely to be the HD format of choice, one director is at least as happy. Michael Bay has been predicting that Blu-ray would win (as has everyone except Toshiba, Paramount and Universal), and now that it is even closer to winning, he has started talking about how great it is to remaster his films on the format.

In an interview with Home Media Magazine, he talks about sharpness and grain. Interesting. The only Transformers related bit is that there is some grain in the film. Tut tut Mr Bay:

“Yeah, there’s some grain, pushing film, shooting at night,” he said. “There’s actually some grain in Transformers. We pushed it just a little too much. I don’t mind grain. Grain has a vibe.”

Hasbro Issue Press Release for Toy Fair US

With the North American Toy Fair coming up from 17th-20th February in New York City, Hasbro have issued a press release, giving details of what they will be showing at the event. The release contains information about a lot fo Hasbro products, but here are the Transformers specific bits:

Licensing: Building core Hasbro brands into global powerhouse lifestyle properties

HPG, the licensing division of Hasbro, continues to translate one of the industry’s richest portfolios of brands into powerhouse lifestyle properties for children and adults around the world. On the heels of last year’s TRANSFORMERS licensing program which boasted more than 230 licensees, initiatives supporting that brand are still going full tilt in 2008. Moving forward, HPG will seek to carry the global momentum surrounding the live-action TRANSFORMERS movie over to the animated world of TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED to build an equally powerful licensing campaign for years to come.

……….

TRANSFORMERS

In 2008, Hasbro will build on the buzz generated by last years blockbuster TRANSFORMERS movie by offering a variety of new products in both the TRANSFORMERS Movie and TRANSORMERS Universe segments. In addition, the TRANSFORMERS brand returns to its origin as an animated series with the debut of the new TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED series on Cartoon Network. Co-produced by Cartoon Network Studios, the series is set in Detroit in the near future and airs on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. (ET/PT). The new TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED toy line features an array of characters from the series that will appeal to both young and long-time fans alike. Highlights of the line include Animated styled action figures, ROLL OUT COMMAND OPTIMUS PRIME (Approximate retail price: $49.99; Ages: 5 & up; Available: Fall) along with the SHIFT TECH OPTIMUS PRIME handheld game. (Approximate retail price: $19.99; Ages: 6& up; Available: June 2008)

There is also a little bit about Toothbrush Juniors, which uses Transformers music, but that isn’t very interesting.

ILM Confirm More Robots in TF 2

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) Visual Effects Supervisor Scott Ferrar was at the Visual Effects Society awardsand like Michael Bay, who was also there, he was interviewed by the guys at IESB.

In the video interview, Ferrar mentioned that the sequel, Transformers 2, will have lots more robots in the film, backing up what Michael Bay had said previously.

The other video interview on the site is with Transformers visual effects artists Dave Folger, Ron Woodall, Alex Jaeger and Brian Gernand. They revealed that not all the team who worked on the first film will return for the sequel.
