Hasbro announces new Transformers cartoon

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on April 30, 2009 | Cartoon,Hasbro,News |

Hasbro Inc just announced a collaboration with Discovery Communications Inc that will lead to a new Transformers cartoon in 2010. The two companies are launching a joint venture which includes a new TV channel and accompanying website that will feature programmes based on the many different Hasbro brands, including of course Transformers.

The new network is currently operating under the name Discovery Kids, and will continue to do so until later next year when it will be rebranded. Then it will feature the new programming based on the Hasbro brands, such as G.I. Joe and Transformers. They’re aiming the programming at children aged 14 or below.

Hasbro is using the new venture to increase its reach to new audiences. Hasbro already has two movies out this summer based on its properties, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

Hasbro is set to pay $300 million, which will give it half of the venture.

We’ll let you know more about the new Transformers cartoon when we hear it.

  2. My dream Transformers series would have all the characters looking exactly like the G1 characters, targeted for long time fans, and properly animated like a cartoon and NOT like Energon, Beast wars, Beast machines and Cybertron

  3. I’m really wanting this to be as good if not better than G1. I mean… think of the possibilities! Hasbro has the entire Transformers franchise at their fingertips, they can make this into a masterpiece or mess Transformers up. It’s their call now.

  4. I personally love transformers. I loved both of the real life movies. What I am hoping is that they maybe incorporate some of the real life transformer movie ideas to this new series!! I can’t wait!!

  5. I’m excited!!! But I just wish they hadn’t left Transformers Animated with so many loose ends. Does anyone else get the feeling that thet’re making this new cartoon to distract us from the sloppy (and rather sad) ending of TFA? I just hope they don’t kill off the good characters in this new series…

  6. I believe the G1 line was the absolute best! I hope the new cartoon and figures will be similar. No computer animation, just old style sketching. I hope the figures can go back to easy transformation with die cast metal parts and good detail, G1 style. Oh yeah baby!

  7. SORRY ABOUT THE OTHER POST THIS ONE IS BETTER
I hope that they use mini-cons and cyber keys aswell as energon but don’t base it all around then. They should also keep the transformering simple but not too simple abit like energon. They should also be able to powerlink because that was cool and all with each other not just single ones. Hopfully there will also be a toy line.
I’m a massive fan of transfomers and have watch every series and completed all the games.G I joe is awsome but im not such a big fan.
those are my opinions and hopefully some of them get used .

  8. Its Hasbro. Ive watched them mess up TFs over and over and over. They do not listen to the fans. Its a corporation. If they havent caught on yet that its the fans 20 plus that are buying most of the merchandise then they are a lost cause. Think thats why Takara is cleaning up in the other markets cause they give the fans what they want. While we’re getting animated crap(sorry to the fans of it) but it is crap. They get the masterpiece lines and the really good detailed Universe figures. And we get crap Tfs movie figures and Animated.
Just hope someone out there in that wonderful Corporate office sits back and is like. Maybe the fans are tired of really childish cartoons and crappy recolors and more recolors and do something original using characters from all Tf universes.

  9. I love Transformers more than Oxygen. <3

Transformers Animated was amazing and it broke my spark that it was canceled. I was overjoyed when I heard about the new show. <3

    I can't wait to watch it. ;w;

  10. To Hasbro, sometimes you dont realize that if you make the cartoon somewhat for adult audiences, parents can sit with their kids and watching it without having to get up and walk away because it’s too childish. watch justice league unlimited and get their voice actors and writers.

Seriously or use some of the original actors but the good actors. the guy who played optimus prime and megatron were good actors. sometimes by the 3rd season…some voice actors were getting ridiculous…the bad decepticon robots dont need to be dumb. Nor if they are a tiger robot predacon do they need to make animal noises when they speak. Thats pretty stupid. The rhino predacon was always snorting which made me want to stop watching it. The first season of g1 was the best.
If you have no idea how to proceed…watch disney gargoyles. They have good storylines and voice actors too.
Gi joe resolute I must say was quite good. I realize you cant be that violent for a kids show but warner brothers justice league and disney gargolyes were very good…serious and had a lot of moral stories. If you have no idea of what it takes to do a good show…watch those 2 shows and get their talents. Oh…get better artists. Gi joe resolute artists were awesome.
If the artwork is too bad…it can mess up the cartoon. Do fewer cartoons if you have too. Or wait until you have 26 done before you release them. Use common sense.

  11. one more thing…redesign the combaticons.

Use an apache helicopter a humvee, a real tank, and no space shuttle…perhaps a marine cobra helicopter or an a-10 plane.
As for the truck guy…a truck thats actually real…the army has real vehicles that fit the bill.

A space shuttle doesnt make sense. And try to give them desert colors rather then make them look different. it makes sense to keep them color coordinated.

    stunticons–they can be different colors.

as for the aerialbots–please redesign them too. they are pretty goofy.

  12. Im a big fan of Transformers, as well as G.I. Joe, even though i wasnt around for the G1 series and the American Hero series of the 80’s, but Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Animated series live action movies, and sigma 6 were about enough to complete me. I love drawing, every moment I can I draw Transformers or G.I. Joe characters, and if hasbro ever needs help on any design for the new TF or G.I. Joe show characters, than im willing to be up for the task.
