Transformers sells Lots & Lots of DVDs in North America

Written by Big Bot on October 23, 2007 | DVD,News,Paramount,Press Release,Transformers movie (2007) |

Paramount Home Entertainment have just released a press release stating that Transformers has sold 8.3 million copies on DVD in its first week and about 190,000 on HD DVD. We here find this comment a bit ironic from Paramount given the DVD and HD DVD is only out in North America.

“The performance of the TRANSFORMERS DVD and HD DVD has demonstrated the phenomenal success of this global franchise,” said Kelley Avery, president, Worldwide Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures”

Just to remind people, North America isn’t the world. Anyway, away from world politics, here is the full press release:

DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures’ Megahit TRANSFORMERS Invades Stores to Become This Year’s Top-Selling DVD and the Best-Selling High Definition Title Day One and Week One for Either Format

From Director Michael Bay and Executive Producer Steven Spielberg, In Association With Hasbro, Record-Setting DVD and HD DVD Sales Underscore TRANSFORMERS’ Status As Franchise Of Inter-Galactic Proportions

HOLLYWOOD (BUSINESS WIRE)– The blockbuster hit from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, TRANSFORMERS, is the year’s top-selling week one DVD with North American sales reaching 8.3 million units since the title’s debut on October 16, it was announced today by Paramount Home Entertainment. The biggest original film of the year from director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, in association with Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS), is also the best-selling DVD day one for the year with over 4.5 million units sold on Tuesday. Additionally, the smash hit has exploded into the high definition market, selling over 100,000 HD DVDs its first day of release, rocketing past previous releases to become the best-selling day one high definition title on either format since their inceptions. TRANSFORMERS has sold over 190,000 HD DVDs in its first week making it the fastest and best-selling week one release on either high definition format as well as the best selling HD DVD ever. The TRANSFORMERS DVD is also the top-selling October DVD release in the history of the home entertainment industry.

“The performance of the TRANSFORMERS DVD and HD DVD has demonstrated the phenomenal success of this global franchise,” said Kelley Avery, president, Worldwide Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures. “We’re happy to be kicking off the fourth quarter with a title that clearly shows home entertainment releases are still an event that drives consumers into stores—which is a win for both content providers and retailers.” Earning over $700 million at the global box office, the live-action feature film TRANSFORMERS is the latest success in a worldwide franchise that has emerged as one of the most successful properties in action figure history, spawning numerous television series and comic books and a wealth of toys, games and other licensed merchandise. In 2007, TRANSFORMERS has become one of the hottest properties for boys in a variety of categories, including toys, publishing, video games, apparel and back-to-school. Hasbro’s licensing arm, HPG, has signed more than 250 licensees in 70 countries around the world.

The first live-action film based on the enduringly popular “ROBOTS IN DISGUISE”, TRANSFORMERS features the ultimate battle between good and evil, as the peace-loving AUTOBOTS seek to protect humanity from the evil forces of the DECEPTICONS. The TRANSFORMERS Special Edition two-disc DVD and HD DVD sets provide an incredible experience with an arsenal of bonus material that delivers excitement and fun for long-time fans, as well as for viewers who are new to the TRANSFORMERS universe. Further, the HD DVD includes a host of highly advanced web-enabled features that will continue to roll-out through the rest of the year.

Atari’s TRANSFORMERS Video Game Hits Cross-Promotional Road with ReAlign/Universal New Band, DROPBOXBEVERLY, MA – April 12, 2004 – Highlighting the entertainment industry relationships that have become its hallmark, Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq ATAR) today announced an ongoing cross promotional collaboration with Universal Motown Records Group, which will tie-in ReAlign/Universal’s hot new band, DROPBOX, with Atari’s highly anticipated TRANSFORMERS video game for the PlayStation(r)2 computer entertainment system, based on Hasbro, Inc.’s popular TRANSFORMERS brand.

This marketing relationship will utilize both traditional and non-traditional marketing vehicles to support both the May 11 launch of the TRANSFORMERS game and the DROPBOX album release on April 13. The campaign will include the utilization of DROPBOX performance footage and the TRANSFORMERS game footage in the band’s forthcoming new video and Atari’s TV advertising spot; radio advertising, in addition to TV; online street teams; and live performances.

“The high level of collaboration between Atari and Universal Motown Records Group enables both companies to significantly extend the effectiveness and reach of their marketing efforts,” said Nancy MacIntyre, vice president of marketing for Atari. “DROPBOX and the TRANSFORMERS game are already generating significant buzz with their respective core audiences, and this partnership should serve to attract new fans to both.”

To kick off this relationship, DROPBOX celebrated with video game media at Atari’s TRANSFORMERS preview event in February. Written by admin on | Auto Assembly,Conventions,News,Press Release |

Auto Assembly has now added yet another great item to it’s charity auction for
it’s next UK Transformers convention in May 2004…

The latest item being auctioned off for our two charities next year the NSPCC
and Cancer Research) is a MISB Beast Wars Depth Charge figure… signed by David
Sobolov, the actor who voices Depth Charge in the series.

We were originally expecting a signed photo from David, but he went out and
purchased the toy for us to auction instead and you can imagine our surprise
when it arrived. As David explains

“I thought this might fetch a higher price for your charity auction than
a signed photo. Please let me know how well it does. Regards, David Sobolov.”

As well as his work on Beast Wars, David has also voiced number computer and
video games as well as countless characters in other animated shows, most notably
playing the lead role in the Robocop Alpha Command series.

The auction will form part of Saturday’s programme at Auto Assembly 2004 and
it will have a mix of charity and non-charity items (personal sales from fans
and dealers with a 10% commission to charity) and we now have a lot of great
items covering all TF eras from G1 right up to Energon with everything in between!

As an added bonus, we will be working closely with many of these actors and
companies to bring you even more for Auto Assembly! McDonalds have donated a
number of gift vouchers which will be used for competitions during the Auto
Assembly weekend, and in addition to donating an autograph, Wally Wingert (Sideburn
in RiD) has kindly recorded some EXCLUSIVE dialogue for us as SideBurn that
has been uploaded to the Auto Assembly website talking about AA2004!! We are
already in talks with other actors who are donating items to the auction to
get even more exclusive sound clips and other surprises!

We are also still hoping to be able to announce our voice actor for Auto Assembly
in the near future as well, although this will be dependent on the number of
pre-bookings we get and dealers who book up so if you want to see an exclusive
voice actor, and have a chance to bid on these great items, book for Auto Assembly
2004 NOW!! We will be limiting places based on the capacity of the venue, so
we would advise that you do book in advance.

for a 10% “early bird” discount!

We’re also starting to take bookings for dealers tables with 15 tables already
taken so if you want to be at AA2004, it’s time to get your bookings in so you
