Rosie Huntington-Whiteley poses for Maxim photo shoot

She’s #1 on Maxim’s hot 100 hot girls list (obviously), she’s English and she’s the star of the upcoming Transformers movie, Transformers Dark of the Moon. Now the Victoria’s Secret model has bared all for a Maxim photo shoot – god bless her.

Replacing Megan Fox in the Transformers franchise was no mean feat, but with lines like these (no, we’re not talking about the script) Rosie looks well up for the job. Enjoy the photos, and be sure to check out the latest issue of Maxim.

Michael Bay talks Transformers Dark of the Moon in the Hollywood Reporter

Hollywood ReporterMichael Bay talks Transformers Dark of the Moon in the Hollywood Reporter

Michael Bay, director of all three Transformers movies, appears with fellow director (and creator of the two highest grossing films of all time) James Cameron in the new issue of the Hollywood Reporter. The pair speak about shooting in the new 3D medium, only two years after Michael Bay branded 3D technology as a ‘gimmick’.

The pair speak of the technicalities involved with shooting in 3D. The press release from the Hollywood Reporter on the article is as follows:

Directors James Cameron and Michael Bay: How to Build a Better Blockbuster

NEW YORK, May 27, 2011- James Cameron and Michael Bay speak exclusively with The Hollywood Reporter about the world of 3D blockbusters in the new issue hitting newsstands Friday, May 27th. It was only two years ago that the Transformers’ Michael Bay called 3D a “gimmick”. Now, he’s just finished his first 3D picture, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. What caused the once hesitant director to branch out into the 3D genre? James Cameron. Bay recalls being on the fence about shooting the new Transformers in 3D when Cameron advised, “You gotta look at it as a toy. It’s another fine tool to help get emotion and character and create an experience.”

Bay found his first shoot, a scene on the moon, using Cameron’s 3D technology incredible. The start wasn’t as auspicious as it seemed- the following morning Bay received a call from his producer saying that all the footage from the first day was lost. Putting that behind him, Bay went on to use the 3D technology in ways that had never been done before. A 3D camera was put on base jumpers who dove off Chicago buildings at speeds of 150 miles per hour. One person caught by surprise by this was Shia LaBeouf who was eating breakfast in his underwear at the Trump building when he saw four men fall by his window.

More insights including how Cameron tested the technology (on the bottom of the Atlantic!) and the challenges that are to come, can be found in The Hollywood Reporter on newsstands May 27th and now online.

New Transformers web design coming soon

Written by Tom Potts on May 23, 2011 | Site Updates,Transformers: Dark of the Moon |

Since TheTransformers.Net began, way back in 2000 (yes, we’ve been around that long) our site has gone through many evolutions. We actually started on the free hosting service called 20m.com (which meant 20 Megabytes free).

During the last 11 years our site has gone from a free hosted website, to a static HTML website on TheTransformers.Net, to a dynamic website designed and built using classic ASP and SQL to its most recent incarnation, in WordPress. In all that time however, the site has maintained its position on the first page of Google for the keyword ‘Transformers’ – a feat that has become increasingly difficult since the advent of the movie in 2007, and all of the other fansites and websites that have sprung up over the years as a result of Michael Bay’s film franchise.

But why are telling you all of this? Well, for the last few months (years actually, we’ve been busy on other stuff too) we’ve been working on a new design for TheTransformers.Net – one that will stand the test of time, look great and won’t impact on our very impressive search engine placement (because that is of course where most of our thousands of visitors come from).

Our new design will rock too because, unlike many other fansites we’re not relying on someone who knows a bit about the Internet for our new design, nor are we relying on just a Transformers fan who happens to have worked out PhotoShop. Now, our new design will be constructed by someone who has worked as a web designer for over a decade, as long as we’ve been going in fact. Our designer has worked as a web designer for GAME (you know, the video games people), has worked on web projects for clients like Sony, and Manchester United, and has worked at a leading agency offering web design in Cardiff Bay.

We don’t want to big this up too much, but it’s going to rock – just in time for Transformers Dark of the Moon.

You can see some of our past designs here, on our about page, as well as some of the awards we’ve picked up over the years (including one from Dreamcast magazine, remember the Dreamcast??? – that’s how old we are!).

Stay tuned for the next big update at TheTransformers.Net – one of the very first Transformers websites on the Internet (Don Murphy take note the next time you want to bad-mouth us about ‘jumping on the bandwagon’ of your film).

Paramount films to be released in India

Written by Tom Potts on May 22, 2011 | Transformers: Dark of the Moon |

Viacom 18 and Paramount pictures have both teamed up to make a contract that will make sure that Paramount films can be released in India. There first project is set to be Michael Bay’s summer blockbuster, Transformers 3 “Dark of the Moon”.

The new alliance between the two corporations will not only benefit India. The films are going to also be distributed to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Other films that they want to include in cinemas after Transformers include “Mission Impossible 4” and J.J Abram’s “Super 8”.

Statements from both companies released say:

“Viacom18 Motion Pictures has built up a very strong presence in the movies business in a short span of time and this strategic alliance with a global major like Paramount Pictures will open up myriad possibilities that will help us further strengthen our presence in this space,” said Haresh Chawla, Group CEO – Viacom 18.

Andrew Cripps, president Paramount Pictures International, says:

“This is a step change for Paramount in one of the fastest growing and most exciting markets internationally. Viacom 18 has positioned itself as one of the most impressive players locally in both distribution and production.”

Viacom has created their own side division within the main company that will help to manage the Paramount Picture division. Viacom 18 is a 50/50 joint venture operation in India between Viacom and the Network 18 group, which is one of India’s biggest media conglomerates with interest in films, television and the internet.

Early review is promising for Transformers Dark of the Moon

Written by Tom Potts on May 18, 2011 | Transformers: Dark of the Moon |

The first review from Transformers “Dark of the Moonhas hit the web and, as usual, it comes from the website Ain’t it Cool News.

The review is a promising start to the speculation that is constantly growing about the third film in the franchise as some fans were left feeling disappointed after “Revenge of the Fallen.” However fans may not need to be as worried about this third film as the reviewer is praising it as the best one yet (whether that means anything to you is up to you). Fans can look forward to a film that is darker, much better written and has more scope than the first two films; according to the review.

Michael Bay is commonly known to his fans as a director that uses non-stop explosive action and cheeky one liners. However; this third film has a much bigger emotional aspect to it something that the fans may not be completely expecting, or used to with traditional Bay films.

The review comments:

“I’m genuinely surprised what a strong effort this film is, not just in terms of its scope, but also in its pacing, performances, and ideas. This one dares to go dark from time to time, and that helped me find the often-lacking component of many Bay films: emotion. You probably won’t shed any tears watching DARK OF THE MOON, but you will care when certain lives are lost or are in peril.”

The review also sheds some light on the performance of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who has replaced Megan Fox in the film. According to the reviewer, Huntington-Whiteley (a lingerie model) is actually pretty good in Dark of the Moon, and is far better than previous Transformers eye candy, Megan Fox. The reviewer does add that Rosie’s performance is helped by the fact that she has a part, whereas Megan Fox just had to stand around and look good.

Fans can make their own minds up when the film hits the big screen in the both the UK and the US at the beginning of July.

Canada getting ready for blockbuster summer that includes Transformers

Written by Tom Potts on May 17, 2011 | Transformers: Dark of the Moon |

A Canadian film distributor has had some exciting news in the few weeks before the summer season blockbusters start.

Ciniplex and Imax have partnered up in a deal that will see the film giants acquire three new digital Imax systems and upgrade seven of its already existing Imax theatres to digital projection. The three new cinemas that are being built are expected to open in the autumn this year. The number of Imax theatres that Ciniplex own will go up to 12 after this development.

Ciniplex said that these latest cinema buys come ahead of the July releases of Transformers 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; just two of the main 3D films that are expected to take this summer’s box office by storm.

A statement that was released read as follows:

“Our IMAX theatres have always been very well received by our theatre guests,” said Ellis Jacob, President and CEO, Cineplex Entertainment. “We are pleased to extend the premium IMAX Experience® to new audiences in Southern Ontario and Winnipeg, and to upgrade seven of our existing IMAX projection systems to digital, bringing our total IMAX locations to 12.”

“We are happy to enter into this expanded deal with Cineplex, which has been a long-standing and successful exhibitor partner for IMAX in Canada,” said Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX Corporation. “We are particularly pleased that two of the new Cineplex IMAX locations will open in time to benefit from the exciting slate of summer blockbusters scheduled to be released in the IMAX format, such as the July releases of Transformers: Dark of the Moon: An IMAX® 3D Experience and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2: An IMAX® 3D Experience.”
