SDCC 09: IDW Announced New Ongoing Transformers Series!

Written by Big Bot on July 24, 2009 | Comics,IDW Publishing,News | Tags: , , , ,

Transformers_Ongoing_Issue1_artSMALLBefore IDW Publishing’s panel today, they have let slip what we have known for months, that The Transformers will become an ongoing series, starting this November.

We now know the writer will be Mike Costa, who has been doing art duties for other Transformers series.

The press release confirms what IDW Editor-in-chief Chris Ryall mentioned a couple of weeks ago, that there will be 3 new series announced at the convention. Look out for the other 2 very soon.

UPDATE: Full press release is out, with another image and the name of the other 2 series, Transformers: Bumblebee (writer Zander Cannon and artist Chee) and Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers (Everything: Nick Roche).

San Diego, CA (July 24, 2009) – After the huge success of this summer’s blockbuster TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN movie, IDW is keeping the excitement going with three new TRANSFORMERS series. Under license from Hasbro, IDW is proud to offer fans The TRANSFORMERS, the first ongoing series in years, written by the critically-acclaimed Mike Costa. Coming in November, TRANSFORMERS #1 starts things off with not one, but two, huge events so CYBERTON-shattering that the lives of the TRANSFORMERS characters will never be the same.

Spinning out of the events of the new ongoing series will be two miniseries. The four-issue TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE puts BUMBLEBEE between a rock and a hard place with his own friends, while TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the Wreckers plots the course of AUTOBOTS in space as they confront a new foe who just might tear the (Dave do these need all caps? CAPS ARE BEST) Springer, Kup, and their cadre of AUTOBOT heroes apart.

“This is the first ongoing TRANSFOMRERS series for IDW, and there’s a good reason to do it now. These stories are too big and too important to contain in even several volumes of miniseries. And it all starts with events in TRANSFORMERS #1,” said IDW’s TRANSFORMERS editor, Andy Schmidt. “This is the best jumping on point for new comics or TRANSFORMERS fans in years. We’re embarking on a whole new journey and an exciting new direction.”

The TRANSFORMERS will debut in November, helmed by Mike Costa with art and covers by returning, fan-favorite, artistic dynamo Don Figueroa. This series is the basis for the two new miniseries, creating an unstoppable combination of new TRANSFORMERS comics.

Transformers_Wreckers_Issue1_artSMALLDebuting in December, writer Zander Cannon and artist Chee masterfully create Bumblebee’s story in this four-issue miniseries. TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE spins out of the ongoing series and is a must-read for any fan. TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the Wreckers is set in space concurrent with the ongoing series. Shedding light on the conflicts outside of Earth, long-time TRANSFORMERScreator Nick Roche masterfully foreshadows upcoming events in the ongoing series, while taking fans on a wild ride.

The TRANSFORMERS will be available in stores in November.

TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE will be available in stores in December.

TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the Wreckers will be available in stores in January.

SDCC 09: Hasbro Panel Summary

Written by Big Bot on | Hasbro | Tags: , , , ,

Hasbro’s Transformers panel was yesterday at SDCC 09 and luckily, the guys at AllSpark.com were alert enough to written down a detailed but not-too-long summary.

There are details on the future of Transformers: Animated and Transformers: Universe, what else is coming in the Revenge of the Fallen toyline, and which Masterpiece figures are getting a release outside Japan.

There were no details on Transformers 3, but slight hints towards the next Transformers cartoon.

SDCC 09: New IDW Transformers Comic Series

Transformers Nefarious SDCC 09It’s the San Diego Comic-Con 09 this week, so it would only seem logical for IDW Publishing to spill the beans on what is in store for the future of Transformers comics.

Transformers: Nefarious is a mini-series focusing on a new organization with ‘nefarious’ designs on the Transformers. Continuing on from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, there will also be more on Soundwave and Ravage.

The series is written by Simon Furman with art by Carlos Magno and will be out early next year.

In an interview with IGN, Simon talks about the series being self contained, how they aren’t entirely sure on the number of issues, how the series links into Revenge of the Fallen, and the possibility of Primus or Unicron appearing in the movie-verse.

First Look at TakaraTomy MP-08x King Grimlock!

Written by Big Bot on July 23, 2009 | News,Takara,Toys | Tags: ,

Dengeki Hobby magazine has reveal the latest Transformers: Masterpiece from TakaraTomy. Unfortunately, it isn’t a new release, however it is a repackage of most fans favourite character, Grimlock. Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock will now be released as Masterpiece MP-08x King Grimlock!

The figure will now come in a special comic style package, with new accessories, including a crown, sword and a gun. No longer included are the apron, necktie, tray, glasses, or transfer device.

The figure will be a Toy HobbyMarket exclusive, retail for 13,000 Yen, and come out in late December.

Tformers have a photo from the magazine.

di Bonaventura Talks Transformers 3

Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has recently discussed what lies ahead for Transformers 3 in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes.

He talks about the possibility of Paramount keeping the release date of July 2011, therefore going ahead with the film without Michael Bay, the negatives that Revenge of the Fallen has received and his thoughts on Unicron appearing in future films.

Written by Big Bot on | Auto Assembly,Conventions,News | Tags:

The UK and Europe’s largest Transformers convention, Auto Assembly, is getting another special guest for the 2009 convention with comic artist Jon Davis-Hunt, who has worked for Titan Comics in the UK and IDW Comics in North America. He will only be appearing on Sunday, but with be signing you favourite bits of merchandise.

Hi everyone,

As the date for Auto Assembly 2009 draws nearer, we are still adding to our extensive list of activities throughout the weekend and we are now pleased to announce that we are now being joined by our FIFTEENTH guest for the convention…

Joining us for the SUNDAY ONLY is comic artist Jon Davis-Hunt. Jon has recently joined the team working on Titan Magazine’s Transformers comic as their new regular artist for their UK-originated strip, although he has produced cover artwork for them previously. He has also worked for IDW on the adaptation of Revenge Of The Fallen and was one of the artists for 2000 AD. Prior to switching to the comic industry, Jon previously worked in the video games industry.

Jon will be taking to the stage along with some of our other comic guests on Sunday (our comic panels will be split throughout the weekend) and he will be joining the rest of our comic guests in our guest area to sign autographs and meet fans.

Jon is joining what is the biggest ever line-up of guests seen at a European Transformers event which currently includes our two guests of honour Gregg Berger (G1 Grimlock), Ian James Corlett (Cheetor), and our comic guests – Andrew Wildman (Saturday only), Simon Williams, Staz Johnson, Nick Roche, Liam Shalloo, Lew Stringer (Saturday only), Jason Cardy, Kat Nicholson, Lee Bradley, Lee Sullivan, Mike Collins, and Kris Carter. As we have three guests who will only be able to attend for a single day, the ONLY way you will get to meet all of our guests this year is to attend for the FULL weekend!

We have a very limited number of single tickets available for the Sunday, but plenty of weekend tickets available. More single day passes for Saturday may be released soon but with the convention being less than four weeks away, you need to hurry to pre-register for what will be the biggest ever Transformers convention that Europe has ever seen!

Couple of Simon Furman Blog Updates

Written by Big Bot on July 20, 2009 | Comics,IDW Publishing,News | Tags: ,

Writer Simon Furman has been back on the blogging, with news of his appearances at the San Diego Comic-Con this coming weekend and for his next Transformers comic, All Hail Megatron #13, due out this week.

Here’s Simon’s schedule for SDCC 09, so bringing along your books and other merchandise to get them signed.

Friday 24th: may or may not make it along to the IDW panel at noon. News of my new TF series should already have broken by then, so I’ll be around (though maybe on the sidelines) to answer any (well, within reason) questions.
Sat 25th: 3-4PM at the DC/Wildstorm stand, then 4-5PM at the DK booth (2913-G in the Lucasfilm Pavilion). I may have to run to be there on time!!
Sun 26th: 10-11AM at the IDW stand, where I’ll be available to sign copies of All Hail Megatron #13 (and whatever else), then 2-3PM at the DK booth (Transformers: The Movie Universe, TF Ultimate Guide et al).
That’s it for the moment. Keep an eye out for more updates, right here, over the next week!

The Transformers: All Hail Megatron #13 is the start of 4 issues that contain 2x 11 page stories per issue. Simon’s story contains art from Don Figueroa, and features Optimus Prime and Ironhide.

If you’re going along to Auto Assembly 2009 next month in the UK, look out for the exclusive cover for AHM #13.

Auto Assembly Script Reading Auditions!

Written by Duh_Prez on July 18, 2009 | News |

We’ve been provided with news of this fantastic fan competition by Auto Assembly guru Simon Plumbe!

As you know, as part of the Saturday evening entertainment at Auto Assembly 2009 there will be a script reading featuring Gregg Berger, Ian James Corlett, comic artist Simon Williams and – subject to his appearance at the convention – Neil Kaplan in a brand new script being written exclusively for Auto Assembly by Simon Furman (who is writing All Hail Megatron issue 13 which is having a convention exclusive variant cover from Nick Roche and Liam Shalloo). However, the script has more than those few characters now it’s time to give YOU the chance to appear on stage with these Transformers voice actors…!

Starting now, we are casting for four roles in this short play set in the Beast Wars era and to have a chance of playing one of these characters, all you need to do is decide which part(s) you want to audition for and just send us an MP3 of you doing that voice and include your ticket number with your email! We’ll listen to all of the entries and select a winner and runner up to act as an understudy incase the winner isn’t available on the evening!

There are just three basic rules for this competition:- 1. All entrants must be 16 or over. 2. Entrants must be FULL WEEKEND attendees and available for the Saturday evening programme. 3. You must pre-register for the convention and auditions must be received by no later than 31st July 2009. Apart from that, the auditions are open to everyone, INCLUDING our guests! Naturally, Auto Assembly Committee members and their families are not eligible to enter.

We have open audtions for the following Beast Wars characters:- Megatron, Razorbeast, Dinobot and Waspinator so get your files to us as soon as possible! You can create dialogue yourself, perform existing lines from the TV show (or the comic in the case of Razorbeast) or request a short extract from the actual script and we will send a small piece for you to record but you need to hurry!

For full details on Auto Assembly 2009 and to book your tickets, visit the website at www.autoassembly.org.uk To submit your audition, send it to autoassembly@aol.com
