Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on June 17, 2009 | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

Darren Jamieson and BumblebeeThis week TheTransformers.Net travelled down to London to the press screening and press conference for Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. We attended the press screening at Leicester Square’s Odeon cinema, and posed with a giant Bumblebee (pictured) and then made our way over to Claridges for the press conference.

We’ve reviewed Transformers 2 here, and we also filmed the press conference where the director Michael Bay and the stars of the film, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and John Turturro all answered questions from the nation’s press.

We’re uploading the video to YouTube, and here is the first part of the press conference with the stars of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Review

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

88491535TW030_Transformers_Transformers Revenge of the Fallen opens in cinemas this week and TheTransformers.Net had the pleasure of attending the press screening on Monday morning, just before the UK premiere.

The first thing we should say about Transformers 2 is that, unlike the first Transformers movie, the film delivers. ROTF is everything that the first Transformers film should have been. The action is solid and well filmed, the plot makes sense, the comedy is actually funny and kept to a minimum and Optimus Prime is actually the Optimus Prime we remember.

In the first movie Optimus came off as something of a bungling weakling. He couldn’t stand up to Megatron one on one and he dropped Sam and Michaela when he was monkeying around under the bridge. Prime would never drop humans.

In this movie we get the real Optimus Prime, as is shown in the film’s opening scene where Prime takes on a Decepticon at least five times his size in China. Prime battles Megatron one on one and dominates like he should, then he takes on everyone else that happens to be around.

For those who remember listening to Stan Bush’s ‘The Touch’ and cheering as Optimus decimated the ranks of the Decepticons in the original Transformers the Movie, that’s the Prime we get in Revenge of the Fallen.

We’ve read reviews that slate the film, saying it’s too long and doesn’t wow in the same way the first film does. Yes, Michael Bay knows how to shoot film that numbs your bum, but Transformers 2 doesn’t waste a second of screen time on worthless scenes or pointless dialogue, right down the potential romantic rival Megan Fox has for Shia LaBeouf… like anyone would really cheat on Megan!

Nothing in Transformers 2 is what it seems, from Transformers switching sides to things you would never expect to transform, actually transforming.

One of the moneyshots of the films comes in the climactic sequence in Egypt when the Constructicons make their bow and merge into Devastator. He is well worth waiting for.

So what makes Transformers Revenge of the Fallen the movie that the first Transformers should have been? Firstly, as stated, Optimus Prime doesn’t have his character watered down. He’s brave, he’s tough and he’s willing to take on the entire Decepticon army if need be. Secondly there are no stupid character inconsistencies used to further the plot, like in the first film when the US military took the All Spark to a populated city for extraction.

The relationship between Shia and Megan is well played and the two have genuine chemistry, even if some of Shia’s lines towards Megan wouldn’t work in the real world. I certainly won’t be taking relationship advice from him.

The editing on the Transformers is much slower, meaning you can see what’s going on during the action and not lose track of which bot is which. That was a problem in the first Transformers.

Michael Bay has probably produced his best work in Revenge of the Fallen, and assured Transformers fans that there will be a third movie, probably in 2011.

More Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Reviews

Written by Big Bot on June 15, 2009 | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen | Tags: ,

Lots more reviews have been coming in, ranging from poorly written pieces of garbage to reviews which give logical and fair reasons for loving or hating Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Empire Magazine (3/5) (First film got 4/5)

A super-sized second helping, but the novelty factor and some of the charm’s gone. Hey, at least there’s more Megatron / Starscream squabbling this time round.

Channel 4 (2/5) (First film got 1/5)

There is, however, one scene that says a lot about the movie, the filmmaker and the film’s intended audience. During a kick-up on a university campus, a Decepticon storms a library and incinerates the classics of literature. No doubt some might say it’s silly to seize on a moment like this, but Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is a picture whose achievements are so limited, you have to wheel-out a microscope to uncover them. And, my, if the details don’t reveal a devilish degree of contempt for anyone who’d rather read a book than hang out with their console or devour a Whopper.

The Mirror (No Score)

It is a sprawlingly noisy adventure epic that entertains at times, but never really manages to engage. Still, the kids will love it!

The Times (No Score)

All the Bay trademarks are there, the slow walk, the catalogue of incredible military hardware, the women with short skirts and long, honey-coloured legs. If you liked Transformers, as I did, then you’ll almost certainly like the followup.

I quite enjoyed it, and I’m glad I’ve seen it. But I’m unlikely to ever want to see it again.

Screen International (No Score)

Unsurprisingly skewing male, Bay’s sequel was always going to lack the surprise element of seeing the metal warriors sized up for the big screen, and, at 140 minutes, it drags. But Transformers: Revenge Of the Fallen has been surgically put together as a magnet for all its potential demographics by action maestro Bay, and there’s a certain sense of fun here which is sadly lacking in other summer blockbuster fare.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Officially Rated and Film Length Revealed

BBFC - 12AHere’s another first, just like we made for the 19th June UK release date. The BBFC have rated Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as 12A in the UK, meaning it is recommended for viewing by anyone aged 12 and over. However anyone under 12 can still watch the film as long as they are accompanied by an adult (18 and over). This is the same rating as the first film. It should be noted that the film contains “moderate action violence, language, sex and drug references”. Full 12A guidelines can be found here.

The other good news is that the film is uncut.

The official running time of the film is 149m 45s, which is 6 minutes 30 seconds longer than the first film. This is most likely the regular cinema version of the film, as the BBFC often make a policy of noting if the movie is for IMAX.

Also, for all you stats people, this rating decision is exactly 2 years to the day as the first film was rated.

The first Revenge of the Fallen Reviews are in

IGN UK and Total Film (a UK film magazine) have both posted their reviews of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Both reviews are relatively spoiler free, and don’t revealed anything outside of what was shown in the trailers, but you have been WARNED!

IGN UK gave the film 3/5 on their star rating, praising the films action sequences and that the editing has made following which bot is which a lot easier when compared to the first film. They mainly felt that certain set pieces went on for too long, with the film needing to be closer to the 2 hour mark.

Total Film have given the film 4/5 stars, the same rating as the first film. They say the film is very entertaining, infact going on to say it’s more fun than Terminator Salvation, but again suffers from too much Bayhem, exemplified by the following quote:

Nor does his inability to keep his camera still or go two minutes without blowing shit up help, the hyperactivity reaching its nadir during a drawn-out climax in the Egyptian desert.

UPDATE: And another one is out, from Shiznit, who have given the film 4/5, and give an overly positive review.

UPDATE 2: ScifiNow have put up their review, which is overly harsh with a 2/5 score.

Cover for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Score

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Score CoverAmazon have posted the cover to the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen The Score. The cover features a close-up of Optimus Prime’s face, with the pyramids in the background, and another Michael Bay sunset!

The Score is again composer by Steve Jablonsky, and will just be a single disc affair. Look for the CD from the 23rd June, and expect it to probably be quite rare, just like the first movies version.

Transformers Audition Tapes from Paramount UK

After the success of the first film, every robot wanted to be in the sequel. Many, however, forgot that transforming is a crucial part of being a Transformer. Continuing their Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen promotions, Paramount UK have uploaded 5 audition tapes for robots that unfortunately didn’t quite make the final cut.

Look out for Drill Sargent Power, Freddy The Flame Grill, Mario The Espresso Machine, Vicki & Danielle The Styling Appliances and Hiro The Toy Robot.

Beware, there are some clips from the actual film during each video.
