Week 2: Domestic Box Office Report

It appears to been another good week for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, with confirmed figures for Monday to Friday and estimates for the Weekend, even though Sunday has barely begun.

This week has seen competition form Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Public Enemies, which cater to very different audiences. The numbers are also expected to be a lot lower due to the 4th July celebrations yesterday, with things picking up next week.

On Friday, Revenge of the Fallen passed Pixar’s Up as the top grossing movie of the year in the US by taking in an estimated domestic total of $268.7 million beating Up’s gross of $261.0 million. Up is yet to be released outside North America.

Ice Age 3 was released on Wednesday, and in the 4 days so far, has made an estimated $43million, compared to Transformers 2, which made just over $40million. Weekend predictions have both films grossing about the same amount.

Check back tomorrow for confirmation on these numbers.

Transformers: Art of the Movies Still On Its Way?

With all the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen news, you may have over looked the fact that one piece of merchandise has disappeared off the radar. Transformers: The Art of the Movies, from Simon Furman, was due to feature lots of nice pieces of art from the 2 movies, but has not been seen since it’s original release date was 19th June, but it’s almost 2 weeks later with no news from the publisher Titan Books.

The live action “Transformers” movie finally hit the big screen in 2007, and proved to be well worth the wait: a critical and commercial smash hit, it grossed over $700 million worldwide, and amazed audiences with its jaw-dropping special effects. June 2009 sees the release of an even bigger sequel: “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”. But how did Director Michael Bay and his team pull it off, and make audiences believe these giant alien robots were real? Beginning with a concise history of “Transformers”, from toy to movie franchise, the book looks in depth at the making of both movies, with exclusive interviews and over 200 stunning images. Packed with previously unpublished concept and design art, this is a must for all fans!

Simon Furman has responded to a question on his blog stating that it is awaiting approval. We assume most likely at the hands of Hasbro.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen passes the $200 Million Mark!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has become only the second film to pass the $200 million point in it’s first 5 days at the North American box office. The other film is The Dark Knight.

Revenge of the Fallen has now made $201,246,000, which is just behind The Dark Knight’s $203,773,518. TDK eventually went on to make over $530m in North America last year.

The film has also taken the rubbish title of “highest-grossing non-holiday, non-Friday opening weekend” ever, as well as largest June opening ever and the biggest Imax weekend ever. Overall, the film stands at $387 million worldwide.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Box Office Review – Week 1

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opened at midnight on Wednesday in North America, and despite the mostly negative reviews, it seemed to make a lot of money in the last 4 days.

$60.6 million was made in its first full day of release on Wednesday, which was wiped the floor with the previous record holder, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, by $15 million. This total included the $16 million made from the midnight openings.

$28.6 was made on Thursday, bringing the total to just under $90 million.

Friday proved to be another profitable day, with $36.7 million, bringing the new total to over$125 million. This is also the 10th highest Friday total ever, which is again very impressive.

Saturday edged up even higher with $39.5 million To beat the $203.8 million 5 day record set by The Dark Knight last year, the film will have to make $39 million on Sunday, which is an extremely tall order.

The one thing from all of this is that Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks SKG and Hasbro must be very happy.

Transformers T-Shirts and merchandise

Written by Darren 'Starscream' Jamieson on June 25, 2009 | Merchandise,News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen |

Transformers_Megatron_Black_ShirtAs someone who is heavily into his Transformers merchandise (I have several T-Shirts, boxer shorts, Hawaiian shirts and a metal belt buckle for example) I was please to find this website that features Transformers shirts and other types of merchandise.

One of the shirts is this Megatron shirt from Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, but if you’re more into your G1 you’ll be interested to know they also have a G1 Hot Rod T-Shirt.

Contentious perhaps, but I’ve always liked Hot Rod, I don’t care what anybody else says.

As well as T-Shirts they have baseball caps and both Autobot and Decepticon belt buckles.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Makes $16 million Midnight Opening

Written by Big Bot on June 24, 2009 | News,Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen | Tags:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has started well in North America with $16 million made from the midnight openings. This total is the third best ever, behind The Dark Knight and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The Dark Knight earned $18.5 million whilst Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith just beat ROTF with $16.5 million.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opened on 3000 screens, but jumped to 4226 during the day.

Transformers 2 Nearly Broke ILM

Industrial Light & Magic, probably the best special effects team in the world, but when it comes to animating the robots in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, it almost got too much.

A lot has been made of the time needed to render the bots on screen, especially in the IMAX, but when an 80,000 part Devastator is created, you begin to understand why some of the machinery ‘exploded’ when given the difficult task. Lets hope no Michael Bay size explosions occur for Transformers 3.

Final Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Game Trailers

Activision release the official Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Game tomorrow in North America, and the rest of the world throughout the week, and to promote this occasion, they have released 2 trailers, one is the Game Launch Trailer, the other is the Multiplayer Trailer, which looks particularly exciting.

This is the footage for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 editions of the game.

Bay not Happy with Marketing Efforts for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Gossip site TMZ have managed to get hold of some emails sent by Michael Bay to the big-wigs at Paramount Pictures, complaining about the marketing campaign they have prepared. In the first, sent in May he criticizes the presence of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in the public eye as not being there, especially compare to the first film, “You talk so glowingly about Transformers being the movie of the summer, but unfortunately this has not got to the public”.

Bay also points out that there was a 30-minute feature at the MTV Movie Awards, but only a minimal presence this year.

In his second e-mail on 6 June, Bay compared Paramount to a family and thanked executives for “busting your butts and bringing your ‘A Game’ for the release of Transformers.” It seems the explosive one isn’t happy.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Explodes at UK and Japan Box Office

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen;s opening in the UK and Japan last week had brought in big money at the box office over the weekend. In total, the film has made $20m from both territories.

In the UK, Revenge of the Fallen opened on 517 screens, making $14.1million over 3 days, which was 71% more than the first movie and very close to The Dark Knight. This time, it did help that the film opened around the same time as the rest of the world and not on the same day as another blockbuster (The Simpsons Movie opened against Transformers in 2007). Expect the film to easily beaat the $50million made from the first movie. The film has dislodging The Hangover from the top of the UK box office.

In Japan, it made $5.8million showing on 329 screens, which was down on the first film, mainly due to it opening during the school term, but expect it to pick up later in July and August.

Given these already big numbers, expect some more in the coming week, when the film opens in the rest of the world.
